Hey there challenjour board members,
I just tried this in a custom game and realized I can clear wraiths with renekton having bought one cloth armor. For safety could use one potion aswell. Would it be worth doing this and go to lane with double cloth and armor yellows+blues when going against the likes of Riven? Or do I waste too much time?

Darkwind3 votesNever take wraiths as a top laner. Wolves give more exp and gold, and deal less damage to you.
If you're ambitious, you can buy ruby crystal+cloth armor, but you'll be short on regen. Course you do have your Q...
Anyway, the rule of thumb is, if you have a weaker level 1 than your opponent, you take wolves. If you have a hard level 2 spike, take wolves. If you're a stronger late game champ than them, take wolves. If level 1 is risky? Take wolves.
DO NOT take wolves if you're stronger level 1. If they try to take wolves, attempt the Wickd method- run behind the enemy tower at level 1 and tank up the enemy minions for a few seconds, repeatedly dropping/reacquiring aggro by walking in and out of the bush in top lane. Do this until your 1st wave will reach their tower before theirs arrive, and then release them. Do not attack the minions at all.
This will cause the entire first wave to die to tower before they can TP up, as well as 1-3 of the 2nd wave to the enemy minions, depending on how fast they take wolves. It'll also put on a freeze for you, which can be really really nice. That will keep you even or even ahead in exp, you'll get more gold, and they'll have used TP while you won't have. Just have to be careful to make sure the enemy jungler isn't starting top side when you do this. and move in late (~1:40 or so)

So my insane armor stacking isn't worth skipping the lvl 1 advantage? I'm a sucker for armor against Riven's, I really enjoy the armor blues and wanted to take it to the next level xD

Honestly, I'm neither a Renekton nor Riven player, so I don't know the matchup very well. Renek's level 1 isn't actually that great in general, though, so I'd expect that it could be worth it to take wolves. Typically, renektons build a damage item first- either a BC or a tiamat. Either way you don't really have a use for both cloth armors right away. One you can build into Tabis no problem, but the other one you'll just sit on for a long time. Also, that much armor isn't very good in an all-in early in the game- health is much much stronger, which is why I proposed the ruby+cloth. The only reason you'd want cloths is vs physical damage harass, something like a Pantheon. That way, your health regen and health pots would be increased in strength due to the extra armor.
You could also do something like cloth+long sword, and run armor quints instead of AD quints, or, if you take lifesteal, armor marks instead of AD marks. Those are actually pretty efficient in terms of how much armor they give relative to other rune types, and you could end up with similar levels of AD and Armor compared to your start without the build path issues.

Astrox31 votesYea I know I can beat her anyways. But 1. I wouldn't want to take ignite over tp for teamplay reasons and 2. My line of thought is that maybe I can stomp her EVEN HARDER with this ridiculous amount of early armor. It's just a "is it better or worse" than the standard situation, which I know is good already
Nameless Voice1 votesOne thing I'll add: if you are going to take one of the small camps, take the ones that your jungler isn't starting near.
Generally speaking, if your jungler is starting krugs and you take the raptor camp, you are putting them behind because they can't reach their important level 3 as fast, but they won't care if you take wolves because they will generally have respawned by the time they get there, especially if they gank with their level 3 powerspike before going there.
