Can someone enlighten me?

On why we can't just have the various game modes all year long? Is it some technical issue that prevents them? I know RIot said they are adding the queue for the modes on weekends, but like, why just weekends? I don't understand it, I don't understand any of it.. Does Riot hate fun? Do they like to bathe in our tears of torment and misery?

I need guidance in these darkest days..

Because having the mode for too long leads to people having less fun on it, as it gets boring or a meta develops (and when the game modes are as extreme as they are, it's a lot harder to do anything "off-meta")

If you want to know why, take a look at ARAM - it was originally meant to be a fun, relaxed gamemode that turned into completely tryhard territory when people started making ARAM-specific accounts and only buying the champions that are OP there to increase their chances of getting said champions.

If gamemodes like URF were to become permanent, it would have been the EXACT same thing. Hell, it even started showing towards the end of the first iteration of URF and basically all throughout the second. After people figured out which champions were broken it was over and you saw the same champions over and over. If URF was to be permanent, it would slowly dissolve into another tryhard playground with different rules, just like ARAM.

In other words, blame the community for being tryhards in gamemodes that are meant to be fun.

I've notcied that. I play ARAM a lot and most of the time my team members never have any other champs besides the "fun" ones. No one wants to play as a tank or support, so that's where I fall in, as I have all but a few champs. :/

Does Riot hate fun

Seems that way, but I still have faith that it is the opposite. Basically, when a game mode becomes frequent, a meta begins to shape around it. When Urf was around for a while they started to see this happen. Toxicity starts to happen over time, you get the "Wtf, why are you picking (x champion)? you know they're terrible in this mode right?" and the mode becomes less about fun and just an alternate ranked where people just want to win.

Thank you for that nice response. I was actually sincere in wondering if they had said anything about technical issues with the other modes. Appreciate it!

Literally no one would play them. Even when featured game modes were around for two weeks, they were pretty much dead past day 6.

Simply because it makes them less fun. URF is super fun and exciting because we only get it so often. If we had it every day it'd get burned out quick. It already gets burned out quick when its around. That and they don't want to split queues and increase queue time. If its on a weekend, or any set schedule, people can take a load off, have fun for the period and get back to normal once its over.

Aside from the meta thing, I feel like people would just lose interest in the gimmicky modes really quickly. I can't speak for everyone, but when I played stuff like Ascension and One For All, I got bored after 5-10 games. They're pretty funny at first and you have a good time, but the novelty of them wears off really quickly, so having them be permanent or even just rotate weekly would probably result in really low queues towards the end of the week.

They've said this multiple times. The longer a "featured gamemode" is out, the less (desirable) attention it receives from players, and the more attention it needs from Riot. Just look at ARAM, which has all sorts of specific items and rules.
