I want higher penalities. Am I in the wrong?

So,

I was really thinking hard about this, and I really feel like penalties should be harsher for leavers. Is it wrong of me to wish they get banned sooner? I mean, I'm certainly not perfect, but the amount of people I see leave hasn't dropped since the discussions about the penalty system upgrade. I guess I'm just tired of hearing people say "stuff happens."

No, not really.

I've been playing this game a long time, over 3 years, and the amount of "random" things that have come up and prevented me from finishing a match can be counted on one hand.

Sigh.

I just wish people would actually dedicate time to matches and not say things like "Hey, we gotta finish this match in like 2 minutes, I forgot I have to go to a dinner." It's like, no, eff you, stay and finish this, and if you don't, I hope your food gives you salmonella.

Am I a bad person?

:/

There are some cases where penalties need to be in place to deter people from activities that others deem wrong. But how harsh is up to debate.

I'll take a real life example; States in the USA with the death penalty have a higher crime rate than those without the death penalty. This reflects a more imprisonment or harsher sentencing style than those states without the death penalty which may instead concentrate on rehabilitation.

I'm not saying that harsher punishments won't work, but a reform style may work better where emphasizing that 9 other players are affected if you leave rather than increasing the severity of the punishment.

...Nope, that's definitely a "you" thing. This client is glitchy as all get out. I've spent several hours dealing with permissions issues where the game would literally not let me load in because, why? Windows needs updated when it literally worked an hour ago? Clicking "Run as Administrator" didn't work for some reason? There are the times where the game constantly thinks you have a firewall issue and you need to flush your DNS 30 times and pray it works.

Even if you didn't live with parents that refuse to accept that your game doesn't have a pause button, and even if you've only had 5 major storms that knocked out your wifi in 3 years, I refuse to believe this client hasn't fucked you over at least 30 times.

The majority of leaves are not 'intentional leaves' so the penalty system can't do anything about them except force them to quit the game entirely. It's a futile endeavor to try to 'reduce leavers' because most people don't CHOOSE to leave a game. Most people leave due to circumstances outside of their control... either bugs, connection issues, or emergencies.

Queuing is a commitment of about an hour of time. If you cant reliably commit an hour of uninterrupted time then you simply don't meet the minimum requirements to play the game.

Someone leaving diminishes everyone elses experience. I might consider it worse than some maybe even most but no one wants to be in a 4v5.

It is a hobby, but its not a solo hobby. What you do effects other people. Just because its a game or a hobby doesn't mean it doesn't require minimal commitments to participate.

I'm not here raging. I don't think people who leave a game are evil people who deserve to die(which is what your responses suggest you think). I just think its disrespectful to queue without being reasonably certain you can play the whole game.

Alternative to the punishments I would be fine if they wanna just throw people who leave a lot in their own "leavers queue" where they can play with other people who think its fine to leave.
