Who says you have to play by it? If I go full AP, still wards, cc, taking care of my lane partner, calling MIA's like any good teammates would, who cares if I take all the kills?
Aren't we supposed to be a team in here to win the game together, instead of idk, appointing someone to take and kill and another who is just there chilling in the background?
I know a team is supposed to have some sort of organisation, that's strategy 101, however strategies aren't meant to be rigid as bricks and inflexible like my boy inside my pants.
BeatzBoyFTW3 votesWhen a support is taking kills, he is doing nothing but shredding his team's power spike. 1 or 2 is fine, but having more kills than mid or your own ADC is kind of detrimental. If you're going for example, 
, you can assassinate all you want and carry the team, since the enemies' tanky 
is doing an easier job, blocking a large portion of your own team's loss power while you're off being a nuisance by going behind us into a 1v4.
Ligerzz2 votesIt really doesn't matter if the support gets kills during the laning phase. All the marksman or any other lane has to worry about is farming. If he is focusing on getting kills more than farm, he will fall behind for not last hitting minions
KamakaziGumiBear1 votesI love shredding my teams power spike as support lux, last game I made my team so weak I was warding the enemy shacos jungle and stealing his buffs, 100-0ing him in his jungle. In team fights I was red baring 3-4 people at a time if not killing them outright. Makes sense, secure kills and assist for my team but somehow we are getting weaker, when infact the support power spikes. Do you know how much pressure a feed support mage puts on the enemy carries? Alot more than a feed adc. Meanwhile my Adc gets to free farm minions, and is not priority target in team fights. If they do happen to pick a carry off we can still fight because our gold is not stacked on 1 person.
The number of games of LoL I have seen lost due to the adc having all of a teams gold is massive. When you put all your eggs in one basket you better have the ability to make sure they cant drop a rock on it. Ill give you the kill if I know 100% for a fact the enemy cannot get away, other wise, I head hunt. The first sign you have bad teammates is when they mention kill stealing.
That being said, I dont start dorans and I buy wards and sightstones. I freeze and tank minion waves away from the turret so my adc/mid laner can get to them whenever possible.

Stephenizgod2 votesUh Vel'koz is kind of a support now, picking Dorans Ring is dumb unless you are going kill lane i guess, but he has a lot of peel. AoE knockup and a possible 3 man slow that can hit behind minions, plus he can cast while moving. He also brings damage to the table with his passive.
DisasterSola2 votesIf youre playing a harass support then you should be taking STE 100% of the time. Anyone with 550+range should be getting those STE/FF procs.
seriously... STE offsets the gold difference so well. Getting FF as your third item (Sightstone/t1boots/FF) goes a really long way. And most of the time i get 1K total from from STE, and about 1400 from FF.
Deep Terror Nami1 votesDo you ever play support? If you do, you'd know it is devastating to face a full damage AP support like Vel'koz during laning phase. Not all mages are decent at it because they nuke and steal too much...but feeding the ADC everything is the Meta, and the Meta is not something you are required to follow. You aren't bound to it.

JaceDownAsheUp1 votesit most likely only works in lower elos. Because unless i get leona/braum there will be no sightstone from me. Focus at low ELOS is horrible. As many times as i engage on adc and my adc attacks thresh/naut/voli because he was closer is unimaginable. When i go supports like zyra/sona(finding out that in my ELO even brand is viable because of his ridculous burst) so much easier to just go ap and zone the other adc from cs'ing or going for kill lane. Im hoping to make it out of silver this season(peaked at s2 last season) so i can move to gold and learn to support the right way.
Because although i enjoy leona/braum/nami more there is nothing and i mean NOTHING worse than warding and counter warding only to watch your teammate get ganked by a mid-laner or jungler that walked over a ward i placed because they have no map presence

Vel'koz and Zyra aren't bad support picks at all, and bring lots of damage with a bit of utility.
Leblanc is questionable, but I've seen it snowball a lane easily.
