Low Elo unfairness - Two new tiers, bad or good?

Let me start by saying, I'm excited by the changes to Ranked coming in 2019. Skipping promos entirely is a great idea, I hope to see it extended to ALL of ranked and not just placements. This arbitrary gateway does nothing other than extend the grind, and delaying any progress even if the player has improved their play drastically.

As for the two new tiers - Iron and Grandmaster - I am equally excited and pleased with these. What IS NOT fine, in my opinion and those of higher elo players, perhaps coaches or even just those regular people with low elo friends who themselves are not sub-platinum or whatever, is the way these ranks are placed.

A few weeks ago, Imaqtpie and LS talked about this on Beyond the Rift (S2 E39? Sep. 28th 2018) but, even without watching that I felt similar. A tier between the bottom and top two - that is, one above Bronze and the other above Platinum, would do great for the Ranked experience.

Now that your teams have already produced visuals I imagine you're steadfast on this and fear you have no intention of making any changes. While I am satisfied with the name of Iron tier, IT SHOULD NOT BE BELOW BRONZE. You risk alienating as high as 30% of your player base if they do placements next year and find themselves suddenly lower than the worst Rank, or they thought "This will be the year I get out of Bronze!" and now theyre in Iron III. That kind of demoralization will risk millions of players to leave your game, at a time when you're bleeding your playerbase already and desperate to retain them.

While I don't understand the purpose of GM rank, I cannot for a variety of reasons speak on this. Plus, it's far too set in stone to adjust a "Master+" rank into a "Former high Plat and mid diamond players go here" rank. Although the intended statement of "The divison between low diamond and high diamond is far too extreme" does not seem to mesh with the result - A new Rank above Master. No Diamond IV level player was going to get to Master, and if a player belongs in Grandmaster then they were not going to be sitting in Diamond in the first place. Can someone please explain their thoughts on this?

tl;dr PLEASE, Riot. For your sake more than any of ours, but the sanity of Bronze (and silver) players too - Keep your Iron tier, just place it between Bronze and Silver DO NOT PUT A NEW TIERBELOW BRONZE. REGARDLESS OF THE NAME YOU MIGHT DEMORALIZE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PLAYERS CAUSING THEM TO LEAVE YOUR GAME.

  1. Stop with the “the game is bleeding players” nonsense. It just makes you look foolish.

  2. You are vastly overestimating even just the number of people that play ranked.

  3. If someone leaves because ranks were readjusted (because that’s all it really is, since now there’s only 4 divisions in each tier, meaning lower tiers have much less variablity within a single division), then they were never going to stick around long anyway.

It’s just as demoralizing for someone in bronze to get placed bronze again and find out that their climb to silver or gold or whatever has an additional step to it. That’s why iron would be just as bad between silver and bronze. Imo

How does an Iron tier below Bronze alienate 30% of the player base when Bronze contains only about 13% of the player base, and Bronze 5 specifically contains only about 2%?
