Can we discuss a revert of Skarner rework?

Yeah, this is a discussion, an exploration, not a suggestion (the rework i wanted skarner to be reverted to was his last one, the one with the Crystal Venom passive). Now, to the topic.

I mean, if Riot it's not going to work on skarner as it is now, till his full vgu some year later, why not just consider that? I don't think that would be hard, because while this rework can be considered a failure, his last iteration wasn't actually that problematic:

  • it was healthy: in the sense that before getting "updated" as a juggernaut, skarner still didn't got any major issues; now everyone lost their minds for the spires, as they're clearly a poorly exectued solution.

  • he could lane: being balanced around getting his maximum effectiveness only in fixed, contestable, zones in the jungle gutted his ability to lane, due to him being so goofy outside of them, unless he finishes some items at least. Also, i think a champion gets less boring when you can use him in more lanes;

  • build flexibility: the ap scaling on his Q made legit to build him ap. It was niche, but still was fun, and worked. Also building some as item made sense, due to the Q mechanic

  • he still had an identity: whether you like it or not, he still delivered a particular feel, he wasn't generic, first of all because of his ult. But to a broader perspective, he was also a fighter who escalated as the fight endured, he felt rewarding as he managed to stick to his target. the juggernaut update was supposed to give him a niche, but now what is he? he was supposed to be the premiere objective controller, but in reality there are plenty of champions who can do that just as well, if not better, while also not requiring the effort of the team to be somewhat good. now he doesn't have the damage or cc of a juggernaut, nor he endures/applies cc as the other vanguards do. Not to say how he feels outside such zones.

  • he didn't loose that hard if he was behind: i mean, he could just group with the team and ult someone in the fight, or farm his way in the jungle, without broadcasting to everyone his location. Now if i lose as skarner, i also get to lose the spires, falling even further behind (good luck clearing those super minions without the spire buff)

I'm not saying he's weak, because thanks to his dedicated playerbase, he still sits at over 50% winrate. I'm saying that he's not enjoyable as he was earlier, by far. The two truly good things from this rework are his W finally scaling with maxHP, and his E, and that's because Fracture has to get overloaded as hell, leaving Crystal Slash to be only a sheen/black cleaver proc.

In short, what's in my mind, is to:

  • revert skarner to his state before the juggernaut update;
  • to keep Crystal Exoskeleton maxHp scaling;
  • and balance from there.

That's because, before the juggernaut update:

  • he wasn't broken in any way, so i don't think there will be problems;
  • his identity/the feel he delivered was better then than now (which was the goal of this rework);
  • he could lane;
  • build flexiblity.

And that's all, feel free to post Your opinion =)

I don't mean any disrespect to the Skarner mains but Riot is gonna ignore him for the next 2 years. How do I know? I don't, I'm just predicting this based on how long it took for Riot to notice Aatrox's issue.

And usually when I see Skarner being brought up, it's always the same people. He doesn't have a big fan base compared to Cassiopeia. Right now the biggest cry for emergency help is Malzahar who has a big fan base like Cass.

i share the same feeling, but hey, someone has to remind people that skarner still got issues =)

I don't see the problem with Skarner post-rework, even with the crystals. I've found that I still perform strong outside of them, just while inside of them I'm MY STINGER RAINS UGLY DEATH. I also prefer the CC he got with the rework to strengthen his ganks. Yeah he's not a dope laner but w/e I don't see too much of a problem with that.

I never said that skarner is weak. My point is that he's more boring that he was previously. A his previous condition wasn't a nightmare to balance, as you could do say of malz or others, and made him more fun. so with a revert you'd get two pigeons with a stone =)

I don't find him boring either. I find it really interesting to play around the magic rocks and to work them into my macro and micro play.

In my opinon, every who says skarner is strong should reach at least diamond... I mean, ofc, you can think skarner is strong, because he is really good loew elo champ, but he has really big problems in Dia + and it's almost impossible to reach chall EUW by playing only skarner. Strong champ is lee for example, good in silver and amazing in diamond.

In my opinion, everyone who says skarner is weak should be able to say specifically what makes him weak.

I mean, ofc, you can think skarner is weak, because you aren't actually talking about the hard numbers that make him weak.

I think darius was the only successful rework for juggernauts. They tried something new with morde but they should have designed a champion for melee botlane instead of forcing him. I hope he'll get his VGU next year. The 3 champions I feel as juggernauts are Darius Illaoi Nasus ,Garenwill need changes in the vilain mechanic,Mordekaiser a full rework because I have the feeling they don't know what to do with this champ with a muh flashy lcs environnement. Concerning Skarner ,i did enjoy the changes that were made but i didn't find them necessary.It's more a matter of taste than a matter of efficiency,so i understand you may be pissed off.

i agreed, olaf also feels kind of a juggernaut. the point was that with darius they just gave him some tools to be more about slicing, but in a healthier way, without forcing him in a niche he wasn't made for. the fact that he was popular also helped alot.

skarner wasn't as popular, so maybe they felt more the need of a new niche to make him so. the problem was that the execution was poor, and so the feel for the champion.

i'm also playing skarner now, while i'm waiting for the rek'sai mini update, but as you said, the matter isn't the strenght, but the feel. and previous skarner was strong just about the same without getting boring.
