There are a few categories to champions

Besides the standard: Tank/Fighter(bruiser)/Mage/Assassin/Marksman/Support

The real discrimination is: Snowball, Pubstomp, Feast or Famine, Spike, Infinity, and Item based.

Example of each in order:Katarina , Fiora , Ahri , Yasuo , Nasus , and Jax . Some belong in many categories BUT most assassins are feast or famine and since I main assassin/mages its hard to categorize properly.

Thoughts? Any groups I missed?

Well there are teamfighters vs. splitpushers vs. skirmishers....there are tons of ways to categorize the differences between champions.

aren't most of these the exact same thing?

Yes and no. Snowball is as long as they get kills they will continue from there and be unstoppable (like kat). Pubstomp is nonsense... Feast or Famine is they either destroy the game or are the most worthless ever, they dont really need kills as long as they are not feeding. Spike and Item based are very similar but not the same since for Yasuo he gets shiv and is god-tier out of nowhere, but it can also be once they hit a certain level. Infinity is easy, as long as the game keeps going they will just be stronger with no outside influence like Nasus. Item based requires items to fully utilize their kit...

Pubstomp is what Katarina is. Master Yi and Udyr as well. Pubstompers are usually champions whose kit is SOLELY damage (or like Yasuo, capable of being used in a solo capacity).

It just seems like scaling well with items is the same thing as snowballing after getting kills which is stomping games and it's a feast because you scale really with with items in the first place.

"Spike" isn't the same thing, but it strikes me as...not applicable to catagorizing champions. All champions have spikes. The relevant information is when - like, early, mid, or late game. And snowballing/item-dependent/stomping/feast can usually just be summed up as "late game".

Finally - infinite is cool and all and actually an interesting distinction, but the average game is over within 33 minutes with ~11,000 gold per player, and in many cases people are ~level 17. Infinite potential is only really noteworthy when everyone else stops growing and you keep scaling up, which for most practical game-play purposes, infinite = "late game".

Actually Fiora is Feast or Famine... She is pretty easy to shut down if you know how and once you do enjoy seeing her run around teamfights doing nothing...

Well most pubstompers are feast or famine... and if you are better then your opponents it usually turns into a great feast and not so much famine...

Which is the disclaimer of "Some belong in many categories" =).
