With the new runes, 
support got really good. The slow her e guarantees the hit from arcane comet and combined with cheap shot, absolute focus, and scorch, you end up dealing about a 1/3 of the adc's hp in one E, maybe even more. On top of that, your ult becomes really useful in teamfights. If the enemy team has assassins and hard engage then you're screwed but your poke and burst early game can get the adc fed.

Dasdi961 votesNo please don’t encourage this troll pick. Remember last season when the lcs popularized it? It was so terrible because she has no hard cc. Her winrate dropped from 54% to 49% because everyone though mf support was op.

Black Cleaver/Mortal Reminder wasn't always the right pick, and the problem was many MF players were actually going in and auto attacking when the risk of getting caught was real. if they just CDR and spam E and keep W up, MF is pretty much untouchable by most champs, and can pretty much dominate game zoning.
SaltLord4511 votesThat was probably because people just love to jump on the korean bandwagon instead of actually looking into why it's good. The koreans had been practicing MF support prior to worlds whereas average people only did it because "the koreans played it at worlds".
Yes, while MF has no hard cc, she has one of if not the best poke in the early game. She can even burst adc's with her Q E combo and end up setting them behind in farm. Her slow is actually pretty good for setting up kills.
