My Issue with Ranked

I know this bitching and moaning about how ranked play is unfair is overdone on the boards and I apologize.

However, I'm in a ranting mood after my last game which you can read on my op.gg if you want to see. I read about a week ago someone suggested LP gain/loss should be based on individual performance. NOT on whether your team wins or not. Honestly this seems completely fair and reasonable from my perspective (maybe I'm horribly misguided and if so lemme know without ripping my face off k thankss).

With the current way LP loss/gain is done, it creates the issue we have today, the "I have to carry because I can't trust my teammates to do it" selfish mentality. Its a team game. The game should be about teamwork and working together not about the "HURR DURR WHICH TEAM GOT THE BETTER CARRY" rng bs we have now. Going off on a tangent so I'll step back for a sec.

In my last ranked game you can see that I did fairly well for the match. It was really close but a lost teamfight (we had baron AND elder when we lost too >.>) cost us the game. Me, Kench, and MF all did fairly well and, in my opinion, should be rewarded for playing well. Unfortunately because Zed and Sion did poorly (if your on the boards I don't hate you everyone has bad games this isn't a flame post better luck next time yadda yadda) which more or less cost us the game. No I'm not only referring to their KDA either.

The Sion stayed by himself on top most of the hour long game and relentlessly pushed until the opposing team came together and shredded him like butter, not even bothering to ult AWAY so his strategy could work out he simply stayed and fought them all leading to basically feeding. The Zed from what I understand was lagging pretty hard but you never know if that's just a crutch to fall on or what.

Basically I played an hour long game, played well, only to lose at the end despite it all and then because the system only cares about the winner I am punished as a player for not just picking a freelo champ and carrying every game. (I KNOW I COULD DO THIS. PLEASE DO NOT POST "HURR DURR JUST PICK A CARRY CAN'T RELY ON ANYONE YOU BRONZE PIECE OF-) I can't understand why the game does this. Especially since its a team of 5v5. You can't reasonably be expected to carry every single game you're in. Sure a diamond player could smurf into bronze and do it but I can't get to that level of skill by being trapped by the rng based "who gets the better carry" system.

Feels like I'm missing one or two points but /rant

tl;dr I think Riot should seriously consider this. I honestly would blame the current way players gain/lose elo on the current state of rampant toxicity and selfishness seen on a day to day basis playing this game.

P.S. I know I'm not good please do not go through every match on op.gg and roast me. If you see a completely out of wack build I've been experimenting with support Orianna don't hurt me I bruise easily.

this season, I played 200 games in platinum, I failed 4 promo series to platinum 3 last week, and literally had a bad luck streak (~20 games similar to yours, where I do well or at least decent, but team goes like 0/20 within the first 10 min and wanna ff). I went back to plat 5 0 LP, just like that.

Before those random bad luck 20 games, I was gaining 29 LP per win, losing 11 or so LP per loss.

Now, I win 18 LP per win, I lose 19 LP per loss. And I keep getting weird match-making, last game I got auto-filled support, and while we were 0/0/0 bot at 6 min in the game, mid, jungle and top were 0/6/0 and wanted to ff. People say these games happen, and yes, it happens, but how does it happen like 20 games out of 25 all of a sudden?

Sometime, I got those weird bad luck streak, can't explain what's going on.

I have a smurf account in bronze (that is, 3 tier below my main account). I played some game in Bronze, it's horrible. https://oce.op.gg/summoner/userName=ir+sun+smurf Last year, I played 11 ranked games, won 3, lost 8, despite being completely fed each game as old ww who used to scale like a beast late game. See the KDA: 11/4/8. I would just snowball every lane, get every drake and nashor. Still lose cause it is a team game, and there's not much you can do, you can't explain to player how the game work every single game.

TDLR: Yes, MMR/ rank should be adjusted. I agree 100%. It doesn't work well as it is now, and it is frustrating. The match I enjoy the most -and the one I win the most- are when I am matched with and against high plat / low diamond. When I start a bad luck streak, and I am match with gold/silver, I lose more and more. When I go play in Bronze, my winrate is terrible.

How about you start with the basic LP loss and then based on your game performance rating S A B you earn a little less of a LP loss 1-4 points or something.

Could also tie it more to objectives turrets 1 less LP loss. Dragons Baron -2. Inhibitors -3 etc or something along that line up to half of the total LP loss.

Nothing directly KDA related.

The problem I see with this is what metric would you use to measure individual performance? If it's CS, then everyone would just try to get as much farm as possible instead of winning the game. If it's KDA, everyone would pick Lux and play like a complete bitch KDA farming instead of trying to win the game. Meanwhile champions who thrive from diving into the team would get the short end of the stick if your team is losing.

As frustrating as it is to get put in games with feeders and useless teammates, all that an individual performance based LP system would do is encourage more selfish playstyles.

As someone who plays ADC, if your team gets destroyed and you're rekt before the 20 minute mark, more often than not, your performance suffers, since your champ is really weak in those early stages there's no way your grade would be good even if its not your fault, as opposed to a top laner who can shit on their laner early and still lose but will reach his power spikes, so a good top main would have a better stat line and lose less lp more often than a good adc main in those (pretty common) situations these days.

honestly it would fix most of the toxic behavior.

although might i suggest a 50/50 ratio on this? so the game looks at your overall performance but winning still counts.

It's not set in stone just a starting point. Also what's wrong for a rush for objectives? I guess the downside could maybe some comeback wins for the losing side.

I think they just need to fix the matchmaking and make it based of leagues (yes I said leagues not MMR because if you have high mmr for your league you will be playing matches that are way above what the difficulty for someone in your league should be) stalling your progress towards the League you actually should be because of it.

if it were based of Leagues however instead of some ambigious semi hidden BS, rank progression and regression could be made basic, simple, and fair.

As to why MMR system sucks balls:

It's incredible you can be gold 3 with plat 4 MMR and still struggle to actually break plat because the system with it's (I'm a force you to 50% coz u no mastah baby) will start working against you long before you reach your destination, being the balancing lever on any team in this game sucks so much donkeyballs it's incredible, because your team will rarely perform well.

And honestly, what are 28+ LP wins worth when matches are so scewered they are borderline unwinnable? I've have never had a single 25+ LP game I could honestly call fair, honestly, never, not once, ziltch and I've checked them all.

So ok, you finally start getting tilted from constant nervwrecking matches that never seem to favour you and your winrate has started plummeting. Good, now you can have fair matches, for a little while, OOPS, your winstreak is getting too long, that's a big nono mein freind, we're not gonna help you get where you belong, we're gonna give you teams that are well below your mmr and rank and pit you against teams that are higher than yours and while we're at it we're going to also give them experienced premades with crazy winrates because: EH HERP-DIH-DHURP!

Anyone who's ever been in gold and repeatedly expected to carry full teams of silvers/unrankeds/low golds against full teams of plats will know exacly what I'm talking about. It is an absolute stressing experience every single time, it's just not fucking fun, and now, it's even old. Way to go!

Anyone who's played hundreds of games a season yet can count the ammount of games they've actually gotten carried by other players when performing subpar on their two hands knows exacly what I'm talking about, for us, if we perorm badly or if we can't personally turn it around when we slip up we basicly lose. And that as well is just no fucking fun. I'd also like to get carried more than once every 50-200 games. Heck I've seen ImaQTPie get hard carried by his team more times in a week than I have gotten over the entire ranked season 6 and he's a super-skilled challenger player, what the fuck is up with that?

I guess I'm one of those super unlucky effers and ranked just refuses to work for me. The better I seem to get and the better I perform, the harder my matches seem to get and that's without me moving up the ranks.

So after experiencing this pattern repeat itself season after season, all I can say is ranked is either rigged, fucking hates me personally or is broken as shit. So fuck it.

I know the feels. But if it was based on individual performances, players would abuse this with even more selfish play.

I think the problem is with MMR, if you're in Bronze and have a very high win rate, that means you're too good for Bronze. But the system will place you with Silvers/Golds or even higher because you're winning.

I wish you could ONLY play vs players the same rank.
