I've been saying for years: if mages can be viable on a support budget, they will supplant supports.

Because the ability to kill an opponent trumps every other ability in the game.

Not really, I'm glad to see different supports. Now if other supports are stifled out of bot lane by malzahar then I've got a problem.

they probably will be... i seriously cant remember the last time i looked at a support that wasnt a tank and saw a support build

Malzahar support can be countered. If he walks towards you, he wants to use his E or R. If there is no minions, expect a W. He has poor CC until level 6. The thing to watch for is his silence because it's less predictable. They might flash + R as well, which can make R less predictable. The best champions to use against him are probably poke champions or anyone who can get his shield down without much problems.

i know he can be countered im a lvl 6 malz, it just makes me sad that 1 good cc and damage is all malz needed to bea "support"

So can brand? Are you saying malzahar does this better than brand? Or how about zyra? They each fill specific niches and I don't mind seeing malzahar bot any more than the other two. If his damage is really a problem then yeah sure I'd urge riot to tune that down but I haven't really seen how much damage a good malzahar does so I can't compare it as easily as you.

well, yesterday he burned through my lux support very quickly, she even had she shield and he was rooted... so yeah it's a LOT of damage, the thing is that malz support has awful scaling, and malz depends on scaling, he was threat early but during mid and late not so much

Then it seems like there's reasonable periods where he's strong and periods where he isn't. Support should also be a role where there's early game picks and late game picks, imo.

tbh so can Volibear when played right as support this guy is absolute cancer, so happens that voli can be a really good counterpick to malz support.

his lvl 1-3 is terrifying.

Using what is broken =/= happy with it. I highly doubt BoxBox, Exil or Adrian Riven would be happy if Riven's tuning or meta made her more viable for support than top. They would do what is needed to win, doesn't mean they would like it.

Also bull, more top tier players are one tricks than low tier.

Malzahar being support is not as annoying as Malzahar as a whole. His complete and utter lack of skill requirement, strategy or counterplay (aside from sash) is incredibly obnoxious. It turns the lane into a lane completely won in champ select, barring critical failure on one side or the other.

thats what you get with all the mobility that riot has thrown around.

only point and click CC/peel can be reliable now.

besides the problem arises when its no longer a battle of wits, tactics and the right amount of damage but a battle of damage, damage more damage and ow cc that guy so we can blow him up.
