Lucian's W holds him back (solution? inside)

Greetings!

Lucian is in a weak spot right now. Competitive players AND soloq struggle to win their matches with him in their teams, he is one of the statistically worst adcs throughout all elos.

People often mention his 500 range as the root for his demise but i consider this only a part of his problems (and i want people to remember how sick post-rework-lucian-bolt could be with those 500 aas, prenerf).

Personally i think that his weak point is his complete lack of teamutility. He doesnt offer CC or vision. Adcs usually have a utilityspell like MF's make it rain or Grave's smokescreen.

Lucian gets MS from his W. While Lucian also ,,hunts evildoers'' of some kind lorewise, this ability contradicts with the rest of his kit. Dont get me wrong: Movementspeed is a powerfull stat on an adc but not so much on one who is already dashing around like Lucian does. Together with the relatively short CD of relentless pursuit, this effect seems redundant.

MY SUGGESTION:

If we look at the visuals, a light-star gets shot at the opponent and detonates brightly. Adding a very short blind to the ability for as long as the hit foe glows seems reasonable to me. Remove the extra-ms entirely. This would carve out Lucian's closecombat playstyle and make him a better duelist and also let him save teammates against autoattackers.

But wouldnt this make a certain birdkeeper really sad? Yes, i think it would. So suggestion number 2:

The target gets engulfed in light, so it tries to shield its eyes/ is shocked for a second. Gameplaywise, the result would be a small talon-like slow, very short and very hard.

I think this is all he'd need because right now, he just doesnt do anything when behind and doesnt snowball good enough to take the risk. Lucian also doesnt have a stage where he's strong in the game, there has to be done something.

As a last resort, let his W mark enemys and infuse them with light, so his ult would Pierce through them and hit targets behind. I think this would be an interesting interaction and reward lucian players for not just mindlessly pressing R and get their ult blocked.

I suggest to gather ideas in this thread about changing his W, i guess everyone thinks it feels very underwhelming. My suggestions are very simple, i didnt want to push him over the top, i hope you liked them/ can come up with your own!

Lucian was meant to be THE mobility ADC, run and gun, going in and out of teamfights at will. Guess who does that while being incredibly broken? Vayne.

Guess who kites better and at the same time is cancer infusing? Kalista.

For Lucian to be as mobile as them, he has to alternate his passive procs and E CD perfectly while Kalista and Vayne faceroll their keyboards, and both of them still have 550 range while Lucian is the only one who pays for his mobility (which he no longer has) with 500 range.

I honestly love playing Lucian, but Riot has to get rid of the cancer in bot lane for the healthy to champions to shine, it has always been like this, the meta in bot lane is super restricting where only the few are viable.

the problem here is the design of lucian

his kit has no real direction

he is a short/long ranged kiting/burtsy adc who doesnt specialize at anything

thats why nerfbad gets swung rahter often

there is one other thing I want to point out as to why riot gutted him. In lane, Lucian is really good at poke, but is reliant on minions to do it safely. So, he is a lane bully in that regard, however, the thing I think riot did not realise is that, after the laning phase, that poke goes away to as it is hard to rely on minions to poke

I truly love the blind idea and if you think of it, it make sense thematically, but then he would be stepping on quins toes( or valor claws). Perhapes the blind can be activated once he lands his auto attack or or q or ult. Or maybe target is blinded if they are facing the projectile when it hits.

And As pointed out, he fills the same roles as vayne, kalista in terms of mobility, but those adc, do it better, have more range, more damage, and CC

As for burst, Graves/corki is better, more range, same dash range or more, and have cc. Graves even has a smoke screen.

So Lucian is sortof in the middle of all of this but excels at none. The one thing he is really good at is poke and as I pointed out, only in lane.

Another short coming on his w is that sometimes his dash and attack range is to short to complement the range of the w. For example, if I landed the w just at the explosion point/1000 range, then e/dash to auto attack, I still cant reach the target. Cause the dash range is 425 and the auto attack range is 500, closing the gap of 925, missing 75 range. Then I'm backing off because I'm assuming I would get the auto attack off, just to realize I didn't. And the bonus movement speed from w won't help you there. So his w, e AA combo can sometimes be clunky.

I honestly can't justify Lucian's 500 range at this point. Not after they nerfed all his damage and not when Vayne and Kalista have 550.
