Malphite vs Rammus

They are both anti ad tanks, but are there situations in which one clearly outshines the other?

I mean, when would i choose rammus over malphite, and when would i choose malphite over rammus?

Is it just a matter of "we need an ad tank but we already have a jungler/top laner so i fill the remaining spot", or does each of them bring something different enough to a game, that makes you think "their team is mostly ad, but in this case malph is even better than rammus" or viceversa.

Rammus isn't anti AD, he's anti AA which benefits from MR/Armor.

Malphite is an actual anti AD champ with full benefits from building armor throughout his entire kit.

Malphite is better to combo with other big AoE spells (Ori R, MF R, Yasuo R, etc.).

Rammus is better against auto-attackers, not any AD champs. A Zed, for instance, won't care so much, but a Tryndamere is completely fucked. Rammus also has better roaming/gank potential in the early/mid game.

The two are not exclusive, since Malph depends a lot on who else is in your team, whereas Rammus depends a lot on who is in the enemy team. But overall, I think I prefer Malphite in most situations.

Also, I wouldn't play Rammus Top or Malph Jungle, but maybe that's just me.
