Can someone explain mmr and how your lp gain/loss number get calculated?

Because I've been getting more lp for winning than I lose when losing. And I got a free win in my promos the other day. So I've been wondering how can I not climb, and why am I? (seeing my winrate can't be much over 50%)

Rito doesn't want to release this information because they don't want it changed or people to whine about how broken it might be.

Riot has gave us much details on how LP gain/loss gets calculated, but we know some things.

-You have a personnal MMR. We have no way to know what is your MMR, we can only estimate it (lolking score, for exemple) -Your rank is not directly linked to your MMR, you can have a very high MMR while being in bronze (or a really low MMR while being in Diamond, although unlikely) -When you win a game, your MMR goes up -When you lose, your MMR goes down -When calculating MMR/LP gain/lost, the system calculate the average MMR of both team. Both team will not have exactly the same MMR. -If your Team MMR is lower than the opponent's, you will gain more MMR/LP when you win and lose less MMR/LP when you lose a game, since the system is expecting you to lose. Vice Versa. -When entering a game, you are matched with other players having an equivalent MMR. It is not based on your Tier. This means that you can be Silver and play with Gold players if your MMR is at a gold player level.

I don't think I missed anything...

For as far as I understand the mmr is made around the elo formula https://metinmediamath.wordpress.com/2013/11/27/how-to-calculate-the-elo-rating-including-example/.

in a match the calculations are kinda complicated, but ill try to get you through. then ill explain why you get more points now. at the start of the match their are 2 teams with an average mmr over the players. below I show you how this gets calculated. If you only want the results I marked then with a Heimerdinger. this example calculates with a team with 1000 mmr vs a team with2000 mmr

example, not 100 percent realistic

Your team average mmr(1): 1000(this is not representative of a realistic number but it is easy for the example) enemy team average mmr(2): 2000 (again matchmaking would be very bad if this was an actual match)

first we need your transformed rating, this is only for the formulla: transformed rating= 10^(your rating/400)

so for your theoretical team this is: R(1)=10^(1000/400)=10^(2.5)=316.227766017 enemy team: R(2)=10^(2000/400)=10^(5)=100000

then we calculate the expected points(kind of a chance to win kind of thing) formula: Expected score for your team= R(1)/(R(1)+R(2)) its the same for the other team but then R2 divided by the sum of both parts.

your teams eScore E(1)= 316/100316=0.0032 enemy eScore E(2)= 100000/100316=0.9968 hmm the win isn't in your advantage.

With this number we can FINALLY CALCULATE YOUR POINT LOSS AND GAIN. formula if you win= MMR + K(importance of the match, I am making this is around 30 which is standard according to the source above) (1 – R1) if you lose= MMR + K(0-R1)

Heimerdinger win mmr = 1000+30*(1-0.0032)=1029.904 loss mmr=1000+30*(0-0.0032)=999.904(which will be made 999)

As you can see you gain more ip if you are on a team with lower mmr, since you are currently climbing you get matched up versus better teams, therefore you get more points for winning then for losing. your currents division is just an overlay that hides this formula. skipping a devision is made to compensate for somebody that climbs too fast in rating.

TLDR: you are playing well and get matched up versus better teams therefore you will gain more points thanks to the elo fomula used to calculate your mmr.

Long story short, your MMR is your actual skill location on the ladder, your LP is your physical location on the ladder. MMR is right where you are supposed to be you get equal LP gain and loss. MMR is A tier below your LP location, you get something like -20 +18 MMR is 4-5 tiers below LP, -25 + 10 MMR is 45 tiers above LP, +30 -15

Something like that ^^
