What item should I start with while playing support Thresh?
I almost always start Ancient Coin and build in to Eye of the Oasis, but I'm wondering if Relic Shield is a better item.
Whichever you prefer, please also explain why.

Coin provides WAAAAAY more gold right now so thats why i do coin.
Usually, Thresh went Relic Shield cuz it gave your adc some form of additional recovery and Coin sucked really hard. But now that Doran's Shield is a thing and the current version of Coin gives you tons of free gold, there's no reason for Thresh to not pick it up. Also, the mobile Point Runner passive on the coin line is great to let your team follow up on your plays alot easier.
Most thresh supports use relic shield for the sustain and it builds into a shield item for your adc. Just get used to using your E passive for executing minions since you're ranged.
Coin is supposedly a good fit on Thresh, and it does indeed work. Relic Shield, although alot harder to use since Thresh is considered a Ranged champion, is another viable path for him. Face of the Mountain provides a shield for Thresh & a active that gives either himself or an ally a shield that slows down nearby targets upon detonation. While coin path doesn't provide tankier stats, it does give you a superior gold advantage & provides allies with Movespeed if you are nearby (used to give a elixer of skill).
