Why hasn't ancient coin replaced cull as the adc farm safely/make bank-item?

Not as a first item because likely you need the stats from dorans. (but maybe anyways?) But seriously, with the gold and mana seemingly dropped more on a timer basis, it would pay off on that missed minion every now and then right? Old coin paying a little every missed minion wasn't worth it. But letting a cannon minion just die on it's own for wave management purposes and get payed anyways...thats nice.

Allied minions count. Can confirm as a Nasus that sometimes buys it early for sustain and cdr.

Well, thats a needlessly offensive leap of the mind from "everyone misses a cs now and then" to "fucking sucking stacks" as you say.

its like a 20% drop chance per minion, so it would require more luck to get the potental 1-2 minions to drop a coin

I've never seen a cluster of them drop though. With 20% you would expect that every so often it applies to 3 minions in a row. So it seems to be more complex than that. As it is quite evenly spaced out.

Cannon minions always drop. As do Champion kills. But 20% does seem low to rely on. If only we had some more data on how the dropchance is actually calculated.

I feel like the cs you would avoid missing by buying more AD/AS is at least comparable to the gold you'd get from coin, and in fact probably much better at all but the lowest elos. Not only should you not be missing that many cs to begin with, you're going to be at a stat disadvantage compared to your lane counterpart who actually bought ad/as/crit, so they'll be able to zone you off and deny you both the cs and the coin pick ups.

Also, you don't need to just let stuff die for wave management purposes. If you've managed things poorly to begin with, you may have a rather small window to last hit it, but theres nothing to be gained from not last hitting it yourself once all the casters/etc have their own projectiles in the air.

Its expensive. If you want the full benefit, you need to invest 850 gold into it. Even if you don't, its 350g and you get no AD, no dmg on hit, no health on hit. It really isn't worth losing that many stats

How about we bring back HOG, PHILO and KAGES while we are at it?

S1 you had Heart of Gold, Philosopher Stone, Kages lucky pick (possibly renamed 2-3 times) and avarice blade. Go wiki them...

Because you have to NOT kill minions for the gold/mana coins to drop. This actually has a HUGE decrease in your income compared to farming a full wave.

Only master/challenger tier players have perfect cs. Furthermore, your support can grab that cs. You will both get gold for it that way.

I practiced cs'ing for hours when I was bronze until I got to the point where I was near perfect. It is honestly one of the easiest skills to practice, but most people are too lazy to do it.

I'm assuming though that this is in an environment that doesn't have 2 opponents actively trying to make you choose between a cs and poke to the face.

It's a great thing to do regardless. But well, ya get my point.

If you are talking about actual laning while cs'ing then you understand that any champion that has pressure will deny the enemy right? It isn't about skill at that point, it is about just general match ups. I can pull up multiple Master+ players that have <200 cs in a 30 minute game just simply due to game flow.

Not missing free cs is a skill that is able to be learned at any elo, sure you aren't going to have 200 cs at 20 minutes every game but you will see a huge difference. Personally I went from ~80 cs a game to ~180 cs just by actually last hitting better.

Wow nice. Thats massive. And yeah. But the point is that in an actual game there is incidental cs loss. So the argument that coin is useless because it requires missing cs isn't valid, I think. Even though there are nuances and results may vary.

Even if you JUST let the canon's die, you're still losing out with Tier 2 even. 40 gold is less than the two canon minions (since every other would be a mana coin).

I think you'd need to be managing it really closely to make sure canon's dropped gold coins, but then that kinda defeats the purpose as intended.

Find someone who cares to do the math, in optimal and suboptimal situations. There might be an edge case where it's a better gold income, but my intuition is telling me it's more work than trying to actually cs in botlane.

I could see it more as an item for toplane matchups where you're being hard bullied off of cs to begin with, if you can move in for the coin, maybe a cs or two, and get out.

You probably should learn to last hit rather than trying to shoehorn a support item to your build to compliment your lack of practice, rather.

I think you are both missing the point and making some needlessly negative assumptions.

Say you have a Tank support or just anything with item 3302. For some reason you had to back early and have 350 gold. Instead of boots or a longsword you opt for a coin.

1: You have 5% cdr, big whoop. 2: You have greatly increased mana sustain from picking up the occational mana coin. Allowing you to use abilities more freely. 3: Having your support grab the cannon minion yields you 70 gold and them 45. 4: Passive gold/5 5: You can let your opponents push you in more easily, setting up for a jungle gank by just not last hitting them, thus reducing their damage on your minions.

This is not about shoehorning something because one has a lack of practise. It's about exploring the Meta. Or what is optimal in some situations. Cull has it's place. Why not Coin?

people actually buy cull?
