The Unpopular Opinion about Invasion Onslaught

As someone who rarely if ever plays feature game modes this is the first one in a long while that has exceeded my expectations. I love the challenge of it, and while at times it is overbearing, I love it. I started playing league because of the strategy behind it. I treated it like a puzzle that needed to be figure out, and that's exactly what Onslaught is. What did we do wrong that we can do better this run? If the mode is DESIGNED to be challenging let it be challenging, for the players like myself who love this kind of experience. If you want to say that it is too challenging then maybe try a different strategy. I've beaten it multiple times with myself (p5, 2 golds, and 2 bronzes). So please don't complain about it being too challenging. Is the Velkoz "escort" piece difficult? YES. Is it beatable? YES. Just because you failed a few times, doesn't mean it isn't beatable. Find your mistakes and learn.

Invasion achieved what it was set out to do. If you don't like the way it is laid out, then don't play it. No one is forcing you to play it. Not everyone is going to enjoy every new event that comes out. Some are targeted towards certain groups of people. The most requested rotating game mode of all time is urf; a gamemode that I personally hate because it takes most of the strategy of league of the equation. Just because there is a vocal minority on the boards does not mean that there isn't a silent group that loves this gamemode. So please Riot keep making these types of gamemodes, but maybe without the Velkoz escort section.

The only complaint I have with the whole event is the way missions were handled. There is a more solo oriented section and a more team/group oriented section. What if at the start of the event people chose a path (like we did for TF v GP) and just played that path of the missions, so solo players can keep playing solo, and group players can keep playing with friends.

If anyone ever complains about how onslaught is "too hard", they haven't played enough MMOs. Onslaught looks just like one of those except everything is all shiny and has League controls.

And the rewards... yeah, too little for something rather challenging to achieve. It's not only vastly difficult, but the reward(s) themselves are also mediocre.

I agree, I do like the challenge of Onslaught. Normal is casual enough that most people can't really lose in it.

I also agree that I think the missions are pretty poorly created, making the rewards extremely hard to get.

The biggest gripe isnt about just beating it, lots of people can and have won in the onslaught mode.

The major dumbfuckery is the quest lines and that requires a group of premade people to redo the mode with the massive champ restrictions on top then you have to win the same concept over and over and over

I haven't beaten it once yet. Got the the big guy at the end several times.

I would love that they put chat room first than this mode I have 2 3 friends but struggling finding a premade of 5

My problem does not lie with the difficulty of the gamemode (except the vel'koz spam maybe, the prob is not in the spam, but the limited room to dodge), but rather with the missions given and the rewards. As for 2/3 missions, excluding the first one out of the 4 in total where you only have to play once, you need to play as a 5 man premade team, even if you were to pick the correct comps according to the missions with strangers, you won't get to complete the mission as you HAVE to be with 5 premades. And not a lot of people have 4 other players in their friendlist at the same time that are dedicated to put in a few hours of effort in a row for a game mode that not a lot of people like. Then there is the problem of the champ pool given to reach the missions, most of the comps required to reach the mission are complete shit for beating onlsaught mode (a yas w for example could temporarily stop the vel koz spam and let your team recover in that small window, but yeah, no sg yasuo skin, so no yasuo/or a vlad that can w). Then there is the fact that for the single non premade one, you just so happen to need to get a team which all haven't done that one out of 3 sub quests of that one quests in order to achieve it (e.g. all no marksman). And then there are the rewards, oh boy. Don't get me wrong, they are fine for missions, but for the specific ones it's just utter trash for the ammount of time and effort you need to put into them. Like there are only 2 rewards, and you aren't even able to get both of them if you complete all missions. You only get either a ward or a mystery champion. If you're gonna make the missions so impossible, at least reward those who manage to beat them properly, like a limited skin or a random star guardian skin. (I won't be putting in the effort btw, so the rewards are not something I long for, just think it would be reasonable for those who actually do put the effort and time in it)

Weeks later and this game mode hasn't been rotated out. Please rotate something else in.

the problem is is that certain parts where it's "hold your ground in a small space" a Vel'Koz or even a large Vel'Koz can spawn outside the radius and leave the match impossible to complete.

Onslaught isn't a puzzle. There are 6-7 pieces because of missions (or 0 because of old/new), and the game mode pretty much boils down to whether or not you get the Vel'Koz spawns before the game puts them out of range, either literally in the moving round or figuratively behind a wall of chogath and rek'sai in the narrow bridge round.

One of my main gripes with Invasion (having not played Onslaught yet, but a fan of the concept) is that this is the first co-op mode we've ever had in League. The very first. Why on earth would the very first co-op game mode restrict you to a handful of champions? If this is an idea that Riot wants to explore (and I hope it is!) then they shouldn't be releasing it with only a handful of champions available. Everyone should be able to play their favorite champions for this kind of situation so that Riot can get a genuine idea of what the player interest in a co-op mode is.

However, for example, this mode requires a balanced team. But only one tank in the game has a Star Guardian skin. So someone on your team HAS to play Poppy, or you all lose. I don't so much mind that someone on the team has to play a support, because you have your choice of Janna/Lulu/Soraka. But if we had more durable front line champions available (like Urgot, Riot!) then it would likely appeal to more players than just "play Poppy or get slaughtered".
