Do MMR gains in pre-season carry through to season 8?

I know we don't get rewards for any climbing we do after the season has ended.

My question is if pre-season elo gains/losses affect the placements next season.

Yeah, they affect your ranking in the next season.

If you ended on Gold 5 in season 7 but got to Plat 5 in Pre-season, your MMR will be higher when going into placements in season 8.

yes, with >50% MMR you more likely to be placed higher. with <50% MMR you more likely to be placed lower.
