PSA: Grievous wounds counters Master Yi

Before you read this whole post, do note that this mostly only works for champions who can dish out a lot of damage

How does one shut down Master Yi? He can easily 1v4 your whole team if you have no cc and he can even do it all under tower if he has the right support. Even if you DO have CC he can shrug of slows with his ult, and the speed boost he gets from it can help him to easily dodge skill shots packing harder CC. The best way to kill Yi (and also Yasuo by the way) is to keep him still in any way possible so you can just kill him because he's always going to be squishy.

But the only time MasterYi stays still when you don't CC him is when he's right up in your face and killing you, and even if you have your team behind you attacking him he can usually come out alive without any problems. This is simply because Yi builds so much life-steal that if he's attacking you he can simply shrug off all the damage you deal and then some more. So what can you do if you're a squishy ADC that's alone in the jungle and you have no cc?

Drop an summoner 14 on him.

The only reason Yi can survive without tank items is because of the high amounts of llife-steal he builds. If you use ignite on him all that life-steal he would normally get is reduced by 40%, meaning it becomes much easier to out trade him in a fight where previously it might have been impossible. Yi's base health at level 18 is also only 2163. Ignite at level 18 will do 410 true damage which equates to about 20% of his max health. Dropping Ignite on Yi as he goes in will ensure he stays still as he attacks you and also gives you a large advantage over him if you can do enough damage to him solo or your team is there to back you up.

While this strategy works alomost exclusively on MasterYi only, it can also have some impact on other life-steal reliant champions.

  1. Yasuo will tend to rely on life-steal to keep him alive in the late game if he's going full AD. Dropping ignite on him would help but it won't be enough to completely shut him down without a proper follow up.
  2. Not very effective on Jax however because he just does too much damage normally.

Hope this helped you guys fighting Master Yi, the less I see of him the better.

tl;dr - Ignite is useful against champs with healing/regeneration from whatever sources. Revolutionary.

Edit: Honestly, if Master Yi is fed to the point where he can 1 v 4 your entire team and he runs into your adc who is wandering alone in the jungle for some reason (as you posit in your post), I doubt ignite is going to help your carry. Further, the most common Master Yi builds contain between 500-1000 hp. I'm not sure why you'd assume his base hp is his max hp as you've done.

Less QQ. More pew-pew.

To be honest I've seen everyone just switch to on hit bruiser Yi and lifesteal isn't really that core on those kinds of builds. He gains a decent amount of tankiness and he's almost impossible to kill without the right setup.
