"i had 500 armor and twitch killed me in 3 autos," says the tank player

"i had ldr and 300 ad and this mid laner is literally unkillable just because he bought tabis," says the adc player

Almost like the truth is somewhere in between those extremes...

There hasent been a single thread with video evidence. I've searched the match history and background of almost every adc complaint thread and the person making those threads are usually some person who was 0-8 complaining about the 14-5 Xayah.

1st video is vayne, a literal tank buster, she still goes to 1/3 of her health from just attacking. 2nd video is a full build cait with botrk and lord dominiks against cho with only 2 armor items and MR shoes.

Both those examples are against bots who just let you auto attack them for free, and it still took cait a good 20 seconds of none stop auto attacking to kill cho' and vayne 10 to kill rammus. 10 and 20 seconds of solo focusing these tanks in a team fight is anything but realistic.

Geshultz6 votes

Yup, it is to show solo ADC damage against tanks to see how long it would take to kill with best anti-tank itemization without DPS from mages or dps increasers like janna shield.

JackMcSnipeyz4 votes

Yes, but in a teamfight adc cant focus a tank when divers mages and assassins exist. All im saying is the videos show nothing that i'd deem OP or uncounterable. Any decent cho would 1 shot that cait as soon as she got hit by Q, with the same tank build and a lot less than 20 seconds.

Im not really talking about your specific point tho, more to those threads where people say shit like "i was rammus with 700 armor and got 3 shot by a twitch"

Geshultz3 votes

I agree that those types of threads are dumb. I would say normally in team fights in pro play they typically are hitting the tank/diver normally; due to it being the safest target to auto and typically won't get to the back line until the fight is basically over by that point. In case of assassins typically an ADC just gets 1 shot in spell rotation unless they have tabi/magic resist to survive in terms of 1v1 if left alone in teamfights; but that typically means they are losing out on 10%-15% of their dps just by using different boots. Otherwise in teamfights normally in pro play assassins are just worst mages without good waveclear or utility and are high risk; which is why control mages are most played mid or hypercarry mages.

JackMcSnipeyz3 votes

Agreed, in pro play assassins are probably the most difficult class to play due to how organized teams are.

I'd also like to thank you for actually sharing a video you made yourself to at lesst create a discussion without the need of throwing buzz words and exaggerations.

Geshultz2 votes

You're welcome. Overall, I think the main issue that is in the game is how the power of supports in the game has been increased by a ton. Heck alistar this season around lvl 3-4 can 80 to 0 a champion with ignite as an example of how far support power has been increased. An example of this would be taking his entire combo of 160 damgage+ 100 on e auto proc+ atleast 4 stacks of his e damage at lvl 1 for 40 magic damage + atleast 2 autos of 69.3 attack damage. Which gives a total of 160+100+40 = 300 magic damage or 300 x (100/(100+32) = 227 + ignite at lvl 4 is 130 so 357 damage + any autos added during hard cc. Which is atleast 3 autos with hard cc in his kit which is 69.3 x 3 = 207.9 damage x (100/135.7) (vaynes armor stat) = 153. So a total of 510 damage after armor and mr excluding runes but if including aftershock it would add 29+ 3% of Alistair health as damage which is 853 alistar health so 25.59+29 = 54 magic damage x (100/132) = 40 more damage so a toal of 550. vayne has 686 health at lvl 4 so 550/(686+80) (Base vaynes health at lvl 4 +doran's blade) = 71% of her health.

1st video is literally a tank whos one of the hardest adc counters in the game. the other being malphite.

dont expect other tanks to nearly survive as long.

expect fighters to blow up.

expect squishies to get 3 shot by shivs passive and i.e. crits.

JackMcSnipeyz3 votes

Ahhh check the video again. It's a full build vayne with botrk and LDR, free hitting a BOT for 10 seconds straight. Look at how she goes half health as soon as he procs deadmen's plate, now take into account it's a BOT rammus who didnt use Q, barely hit ult, and auto attacked like once aswell as not comboing his abilities together. Also take into account that despite all that vayne still goes to 1/3 health, from just auto attacking rammus.

Wow! So broken! An anti tank adc with armor pen, and % health damage taking out a rammus being played by the computer after 10 seconds of none stop auto attacking, and STILL goes below 50% health.

Also those "other tanks" like cho'gath with 2 armor items in the 2nd video against full item cait? How long did he survive? 20 seconds of none stop auto attacks, again, cho' played by a BOT.

I dont see how tanks are getting bursted when it takes 10 seconds of a tank buster adc full attention to down a rammus.

in this case it doesnt even matter that its a bot, since hes basically just a practise dummy who fights back. its still a full build rammus who dies in 10 seconds.

if you take any other champion against that, hes just gonna blow up.

JackMcSnipeyz2 votes

So let me do bullet points because im having a hard time understanding how you think this is scenerio is wrong.

On one hand we got vayne: -Built lord dominiks regard against armor. -built botrk against health stacking. -has a %health damage in her kit -built 0 defense full offense textbook glass cannon -freely allowed to attack without retaliation.

On the other hand we got rammus: -Stacked armor -Stood there and took hits for no reason.

So with all those things in mind, vayne had to focus him for 10 seconds of none stop auto attacking and still finished the "fight" with 1/3 health. I dont know what games you play but 10 seconds in a team fight is enough to kill vayne 10 times. You seriously think it's unfair that vayne, a tank buster, has to auto attack for straight 10 seconds a training dummy that doesnt react to kill it?

Yea okay, you can join the assassin mains who cry they cant 1v2 and win every time.

what im saying is, that when she takes 10 seconds to kill one of the most anti-adc geared tanks in the game, think for a second what she does when youre not playing rammus.

shes just going to kill a fighter in 3 to 4 seconds flat, and 3 shot a squishy.

i mean its not like this doesnt happen regularly with marksmen in general.

JackMcSnipeyz2 votes

Vayne is a unique case because of her W, but this is champion specific balance, she is very polarizing but you cant tell me just because vayne busts tanks, other adc will do it at the same time frame.

Again, perfect example: the guy i replied to literally posted a full build cait, against a 3 item cho gath, only 2 of them armor and MR boots. You know how long it took her ? 20 seconds of constant auto attacks.

I dont call mages OP just because veigar 1 shots me late game with R.

Critmaster Garen3 votes

{quoted}

Vayne is a unique case because of her W

but so is her target. dont you get it?

vayne can shred through a tank faster than most other marksmen. but rammus is at the same time tankier than even most tanks against auto attacks and physical damage.

put up a darius vs. a full build tristana or twitch or a cait, and these marksmen are going to shred him in half the time the vayne needed on that rammus. how is a bruiser supposed to fight when he cant live for 5 seconds?

put them against squishies and they blow up to crits almost instantly.

rammus is not the norm of what marksmen are going to attack, and their damage shouldnt be balanced around rammus and malphite.

JackMcSnipeyz2 votes

Okay, but as soon as darius reaches any of those carries (except tristana who is busted) they are 100% dead from a single combo. Darius builds defensive items and still does considerable damage, his weakness is target accsess, if the adc can kite it's in favor of the adc, if darius can flank or get his hands on an adc, darius wins, that's part of the power play.

Now dont confuse what im saying for me thinking the power levels between them are fine as they are, adc items are too cheap and statik is brain dead, but other than that lets not circlejerk each other on how twitch 1 shot me as a full tank tank with 2 items, because that's the level some people here argue on.

Critmaster Garen2 votes

{quoted}

Okay, but as soon as darius reaches any of those carries (except tristana who is busted) they are 100% dead from a single combo.

which means shit when tristana just needs to press r before he gets there. or vayne presses e, or cait throws a net in his face and locks him down with traps.

most of the time they just die before they get in range. and they only get in range when the marksman fucks up.

JackMcSnipeyz2 votes

I specificly mentioned how tristana is an exception, and that she's broken in terms of safety. Other than that, darius can catch cait mid E to stop her dash and slow her long enough to land Q R. Vayne needs to constantly stay at 550 range to apply ANY damage.

Lastly, darius is a juggernaut, kiting are their inherit weakness, that's like me complaining how i cant duel a jax or an assassin 1v1 as an adc. Yes the tip will be in the adc favor in juggernaut's case, but other than a few abusive champs like tristans and vayne, this isnt something out of the ordinary.

Unless you think you should just outrun, out sustain and out damage them?

C9 Squeeky 1 votes

I agree with all your comments. In realistic scenarios, Vayne will most likely be changing attack targets so she won't even get as many silver procs off on the tank, not to mention there are FIVE players on each team as opposed to one. There is such a thing as mages, assassins, and crowd control. It's like people think ADCs shouldn't do any damage at all or that they should lose all 1v1s (or even lose 1v2s when their support is helping them). It's ridiculous.

At the same time, Rammus damage reflection is much higher during his W window. If Vayne chooses to swap targets during that window and come back on Rammus later, she'll take much much less damage (30 +15% of Rammus total armor, knowing that his total armor is actually multiplied by 1.9 (!) and increased by flat 20 during his W). Alternatively, taking just a Mercurial Scimitar will cut down Rammus's damage by a lot : as it gives 35 MR and vayne has 39 base MR at lvl 18 ; she would take (1 - 1.39/1.74) less damage, aka 20.12% less damage from Rammus. So if you kite and don't attack Rammus through his W, then he'll deal almost 0 damage to the adc when it expires.

I see what you're saying. The thing about these threads, they use very specific/sandbox-created scenarios rather than real-life realistic ones. Every tank thinks they should be able to 1v1 an ADC (or 1v2 with their support in some cases) with just their base dmg. If an ADC can't kill a tank, who will? Not every team will have a Cassiopeia . ADC are designed to deal sustain DPS and are glass-cannon. One misposition and the'yre dead. But these threads seem to think that tanks should be unkillable machines that should also duel or even 1-shot an ADC when that is the midlaner/top/assassin jg's job. Tanks are there to absorb damage & crowd control instead of dealing out damage. But nope, Tanks should be able to kill carries without buying any AD/AP (sarcasm). Game Designers/balance team aren't perfect but it's silly that players think they know better than the people who actually went to school for this stuff & make a living off it.

I don’t know where this idea of adc’s countering tanks started honestly. Bruisers/fighters imo have always been the suitable counter to tanks because they do enough sustained damage to kill a tank at a moderate pace while also having enough sustain and health based tankyness to negate a tanks burst windows.

The thing about this concept of “adc’s should shred tanks” is that due to the nature of their ranged auto attacks and team/self peel, this makes it so tanks are unable to do their jobs properly which is to engage and also be front line protection for their team especially when you consider there’s four other people to beat on a tank at the start of an engage.

Thee whole way adc’s are supposed to express skill is to position properly to circumvent getting killed by tankier champions and successfully nuke back lines, but instead they are nuking front lines and back lines alike which is why the meta has been protect the adc for a whole year, because adc’s are effective versus everything and come online too quickly.

Another thing to consider is tanks typically have 3300-3700 hp full build, but one of the most common combos among adc’s is shiv IE which periodically deals over 500 magic damage, which is hard to itemize against when adc’s are already nuking you with physical auto attacks.

Marshbouy2 votes

Both videos are boil down to "lol bots r dumb"

Solicitude2 votes

There is something wrong with both those videos.

1st: This is not the normal tank build. In most game, a tank build is item 3083 item 3193 +1 mr item+1 armor item+item 3060 or (in a few cases) second armor item, and item 3111 or (in fewer cases) item 3047 , because in most games the enemy team will also have magic damage. Also, rammus has 4 very high armor items, while most tanks, even against full ad teams will have item 3800 , which doesnt give that much armor, and rammus also has a huge armor buff on his W. Its really zero surprise that vayne was scratching him, while she was literally dying on her own.

2nd: For Caitlyn, i can say that there is something wrong with the rune page, the rune on the end of the Precision tree which gives more damage to high HP targets, dont remember the name but she doesnt seem to have it. Though id say this is somewhat normal, for Cait alone to take so much time to kill Cho, he has 2 high armor items and 5K health, he can take a lot of punishment.

Im saying this as a tank player. The damage from an ADC (assuming it hasnt fallen behind) hurts, A LOT. Taking a few hits, especially if they are crits, will force you back. And because team-fights are extended and its quite hard to get to the ADC, at least in my elo, the ADC will have the time to deliver some serious pain, some of them extremely serious pain (KogMaw ). But i can say, that even with the pain they can cause, they are not broken, but really pack a punch.

But the thing i hate on ADCs is that, in too many cases, their damage comes on line before the tanks can become tanky enough to get to a relative state of "tankiness".

SooFr0sty5 votes

People have done the numbers and have shown that Adc core items are among the cheapest, which is a problem because they are suppose to be late game characters that scale with items.

You can see that they rather have items than levels because they split a lane with a support, lowering their overall experience compared to a solo lamer.

Another point would be that there are more anti-auto attack items in the game then there are of any item archetype, which could be argued that Riot sees that they are a huge threat, but could also argue this make Adcs weaker.

This is coming from a jungle main and adc secondary person.

Geshultz2 votes

I mean to be fair to the point of more anti-auto attack items in the game is because their are more classes that use auto attacks are primary source of dps. Think divers, skirmishers, ADCs, and juggernauts.

For adc itemization total cost is lower but also doesn't spike until item 3031 +item 3087 and atleast item 3035 to be useful in teamfights/ duels. Most classes get their power spike in their components or their first items that is typically equal to same powerspike with 7.3k gold spent on itemization by ADC. Heck duskblade is 2.9k gold and gives the best powerspike in game right now item 3147 with triforce coming in second with 3.7k gold.

Bern3 votes

ADCs are, for the most part, numerically stronger than they were in previous seasons. There's a confluence of multiple factors here.

-Less gold buys the same items.

-Through the season transition, many champions lost some armor when they were given hp/lvl over base AR to compensate for the loss of runes.

-The loss of MR blues disproportionately affected rageblade carries and made them spike harder on rageblade. This is slight, but relevant. Same applies to ADCs with magic damage on some abilities (cough Ezreal early in the season cough)

-Zeke's Convergence is actually bonkers.

-Knight's Vow means ADCs are harder to kill than they were before the item existed.

-Bloodline rune is a lot of free lifesteal not previously available.

-Gathering Storm is a lot of free damage. Unlike fervor, you also don't have to sacrifice the survivability of Fleet to buy into this free damage.

-Supports now don't need to dump gold into their sightstone, which increases the powerlevel of bot lane overall, helping the ADC indirectly. (More gold can go into items that help the AD not die.)

-Backline-diving bruisers aren't favored right now (most of them lack a good keystone).

-It's standard to not build a full defensive item anymore, whereas at full build ADCs used to buy old GA, Banshee's Veil, etc.

-Locket being stronger than before makes it harder to burst backline carries or try to take out the backline out of the fight with abilities like Equalizer. Redemption also kinda helps with this.

I could go on for a while, but there's a metric ton of small things like this that come together to make ADCs strong in their current state. I don't know for sure if they're overpowered, but I don't think there's much question they're getting more offensive stats than they used to for similar amounts of gold, and more survivability and damage from the rest of the team's itemization, when compared to previous seasons.

SamBunzly3 votes
  1. Low-Cost High-Efficiency itemization: Adc's have the lowest costing item pool of the entire game, and gleen way too many rewards from so little gold.
  2. DPS vs Burst: Bursty mages have to wait for cooldowns on their spells before they're viable again. Adc's can dish out damage constantly.
  3. Lack of Counterplay: Adc's also have access to many items that help keep them alive and protected, again with that (relatively) low gold cost. For example, item 3072 item 3139 item 3153. These all give lifesteal, while one protects them from mages and crowd control* while the other provides movement speed through an active item.

This is just a boiled down summary, I could go on for DAYS about the state of adc's in this season and last.

-EDIT- *forgot to mention the qss effect on Mercury Scimitar

C9 Squeeky 2 votes

Most mages outrange ADC with their abilities so they usually win trades/all-ins

SamBunzly2 votes

Most ADCs have lifesteal and a Mercurial Scimitar versus a mage. with 100 cs, I'm pretty sure the ADC is going to end up victorious over the course of that duel.

GripaAviara2 votes

ADCs aren't overpowered, by themselves. But they are the most reliable source of damage and since bot lane starts as duo, they have someone that will provide them shields, heal etc turning a fed ADC into a juggernaut. This is because a lot of ADC have mobility skills, which is great to kite and stuff 1v1 but with a good sup by their side those mobility skills turn into nightmare

Leaf on Bush2 votes

The better question is, what does it even matter when you have an ADC on both teams and you are allowed to team up with team mates of your choice to take objectives?

I've seen many games where top + jungle were able to make up for a weak bot lane.

But on the boards it's always: I play top and I can't deal with the enemy bot lane. I play mid and I can't deal with the enemy bot lane. I play jungle but I can't deal with the enemy bot lane.

Ever heard about teamplay? "The botlane" is not 1 player with a collective mind. They are 2 and it takes more than 1 player to outperform them.

There is the simple pattern:

  • it all starts with your attitude
  • become salty
  • find something to blame
  • spread your subjective opinion everywhere
  • sometimes it becomes big and popular and sometimes not
  • never look back and question yourself
  • never try a more reasonable approach to solve your problems

This community just lost it because they can't question themselves and they confuse popular opinions with objectively justified opinions. They see lots of upvotes and think it's an indicator for truth and at this point the morons take over.

I don't think that adcs are op its more like the support shields and healing make it nearly impossible for assassines or bruisers to kill them.

On the other hand you re pretty much screwed without a proper support in team fights. Thats why I hate mage supports. They are strong in the lane but a free kill later unless they have only squishies.

As a support / adc main I have a lot easier time to carry as support because even if the adc is bad the support can still carry nearly solo. But if the support is bad then you are so fucked as adc. Without peeling you are dead in 1 second. Supports have too much impact on the game in my opinion.

Look at your match history. Are there any wins where your botlane fed? Or defeats where your botlane won? I can't find any in my own match history.

Overall ADCs scale too good right now, even lategame adcs like Kog'maw come online after only Rageblade. Lategame, they have dps so high they outburst a lot of burst focused champions. For example, I was playing Orianna when the enemy Tristana jumped in, killing me before my ult animation finished. ADC itemization is cheaper than bruiser or mage itemization, while scaling better as well.

Supports are way too focused at supporting the adc over the rest of the team. Items like item 3504 item 3050 are completely focused around the adc, and many supports give either AD or on-hit - Janna Lulu Nami so they are forced to use the spells on the adc to gain full value.
