Sterak's Gage and base AD scaling, is it signaling AD item reworks?

Will base AD scaling be start of a trend? We saw this with HP/Mana Regen changing from static value to %base HP/Mana Regen. Will all AD items be changed like this in the future, or will this just be a unique case?

I could see things like item 1036 +25% base AD item 1037 +50% base AD item 1038 +100% base AD

or something like that, although numbers and cost will probably be have to be changed and just be messy for like 5 patches to finally get it right.

That would be pretty unbalanced. For why, +100% base AD of Ashe gives her 99.5 AD; however, at Kalista's end she gets 117. For the same item that is core to their archetype Kalista gets an extra 17.5 AD (also known as a really huge amount lategame when scaled with crit, AS, and steroids).

I wrote down those numbers based on when ADCs would buy when they first backed. I see my mistake now. Maybe 10%, 25%, and 50%? It just feels weird overall still.

Kalista deals 10% less damage on autos, wouldn't be as big a deal

Plus, we'd end up with ADC Maokai... actually I'd like to see that, lets encourage them to make this change.

It's meant to be a sterak's (or specific items only) thing. This gives it a unique value profile for champs that have really high base AD (immobile fighters) while not being nearly as good for other AD scaling characters with lower base AD (marksmen and assassins).

Though if it's really becoming a must have core item we may add another base AD item in the future to compete with it.

In that context, was it intended for Sterak's Gage to not factor into bonus AD scalings at all? AD casters tend to depend almost completely on bonus AD ratios, whereas most juggernauts have or will have total AD scalings on the majority of their damaging abilities.

On that note, how do you feel about items losing certain of their components' bonuses as you purchase them? Sterak's losing a small amount of bonus AD scaling from item 1036 is an example, but there's also the removal of item 3010's per-level health/mana restoration on item 3800, and the old case of item 3093 completely losing its gold generation upon being upgraded to item 3087 or item 3142. What impact does that have on builds and build decisions? If you're alright with trading off stats or bonuses, would you consider adding an extra "upgrade" to top-tier support items (e.g. item 3401 / item 3092 / item 3069) that would trade off their gold generation for other bonuses and better late-game power?

I think its only sterak and sheen taht will do that, because there are so many wild values on champs like many non ads who have high base ad like singed or alistar for instance that would make this a nightmare to steer in.

It's not impossible to eventually get it right, but in that period will be a whole bunch of broken champions.

yeah, I dont think its worth it from Riot standpoint, until atleast preseason.

%Base AD is a bruiser stat. Assassins and carries generally have bonus AD ratios, which Base AD does not affect, but if you notice the new juggernauts all have Total AD ratios, so that Base AD matters more. %Base AD on every AD item would also make every AD item scale independently into late game, and would also make trinity force procs do like 1000 damage.
