How Ranked Works and why its flawed.

According to riot, ranked works based off a mixture of your MMR from last season, a soft reset to that MMR, and then what your MMR is after your placement matches.

One of the major flaws is going based off of your MMR from last season. Last season I barely played ranked. I did the placement games and just wanted them over with. Due to me foolishly doing this, my MMR was very low. Then this season started and I wanted to try my best. I won 9 of my 10 placement games as the ADC. I carried most of the games so you would expect my MMR to be decently high. I mean for starting position, you would expect that my placement games alone should have got me at least Bronze 1. Due to my MMR last season, I was placed in Bronze 5. When I got those results, it blew my mind that I could be placed so badly after so many good games. I mean, I went on a 9 win streak and lost the last game. According to riot, the main reason I was put so low was because of how low my MMR was last season. In other words, because I was bad last season, I am doomed to Bronze 5 this season. Anyone else who has ever been in Bronze or below knows that getting out of Bronze is extremely difficult unless you duo. An idea I had was that you create another rank, one that would be between Bronze and Silver. And that is where everyone goes. Your placement games either should put you in silver, bronze, or leave you in that rank. As well, it should be based on MMR from this season alone. If you crap out of your placement games and get put in Bronze, you then have to work your way out of it. But if you do great during your placement games, you do not get put with the worst of the worst. With the trollers and noobs of League. My ranked games as a bronze go one of four ways. I get myself fed and carry the game to a victory, I get fed but my team fed too hard and we still lose, I go even but my team feeds hard, or, which rarely happens, I play a below average game where I do not play my best but someone else carries the team. By below average, I mean I lose lane and get shut down early but I dont feed. The scores below are the results of my 10 placement games.

Game 1: Caitlyn 18-3-11 Victory CS: 174 Time: 28:54 Game 2: Darius 19-4-3 Victory CS: 215 Time: 31:12 Game 3: Caitlyn 20-6-14 Victory CS: 222 Time: 42:33 Game 4: Caitlyn 15-6-9 Victory CS: 128 Time: 28:51 Game 5: Ezeral 5-10-16 Victory CS: 115 Time: 37:08 Game 6: Caitlyn 19-3-10 Victory CS: 134 Time: 25:33 Game 7: Caitlyn 7-6-15 Victory CS: 99 Time: 24:20 Game 8: Caitlyn 22-4-13 Victory CS: 172 Time: 32:18 Game 9: Caitlyn 8-2-5 Victory CS: 110 Time: 20:33 Game 10: Blitzcrank 6-7-16 Defeat CS: 71 Time: 32:48

You were paired up against low enemies, that's why you went on winstrike in the first place.

I've been placed in bronze 2 seasons despite proving I don't belong there, and honestly I don't care it's more of an annoyance than anything.

I got B4 one season and immediately climbed from B4 to S5 with a single loss playing only support. The so called "hardest role to carry" I destroyed my way immediately out of bronze that season.

Flashforward to this season, I get placed B2 and what do I do? immediately taking only 2 losses go from B2 to S5 instantly.

Every year I've played ranked I go to S3 then stop playing (Except this season, I've actually decided to keep playing past S3 this season for the first time which is going well I lost 1 of my last 10 games and I'm at 70+lp)

So it's shit that I keep getting put in B~ because I have proven multiple times I don't belong anywhere NEAR bronze as every time I get put there I curb stomp my way immediately to silver but I also recognize WHY this happens. It's to prevent players who get placed well despite their lack of skill from staying placed well.

I had a friend who got placed S2 one season (last season?) and the guy thought he was amazing. He then immediately rocketed down to B5 no joke. He went from S2 to B5 in literally days he was so bad he fed almost every game. He thought he belonged in S2 because that's where he got placed after going like 5/5 in placements.

If he had STOPPED playing at the moment he was placed, next season if he came back and did 5/5 again he could have been placed exactly where he was based on your logic, but he doesn't BELONG there. He needs to PROVE he belongs there. So they place you lower than expected, and force you to PROVE you deserve to be there. For someone like me, who's never had a problem climbing. I don't care I can prove it just fine. But for someone like my friend, who is terrible at the game. They set out to "prove" they deserve in that rank and they get destroyed because they DON'T deserve to be there.

The system sucks for players who have earned it. But it also does an amazing job of keeping players who have NOT earned it OUT of our ranks. I would rather have to climb from B5 to S5 every season then be forced to place S3 again and play with a bunch of people who belong in bronze in the first place.

This doesn't point out a flaw in the system. It just means that you were placed against trash and you beat them. Just because you beat trash doesn't mean you belong in high elo.

I know it should be easy for him to climb, but hes going to go on a winstreak, and then start facing golds while his team is bronze / low silver. Then hes gonna complain about every one of his teams feeding, and hes gonna be stuck in elo hell. Riot has been doing this for a while, its just a lot more noticeable now. Riot is creating elo hell, and forcing people onto bad teams to drop from their 70+ winrate, and while they are playing in lets just say plat elo, they are gold 5, they wont skip divisions even though they are forced to carry shit teams over and over. And eventually you just get sick of the shit and decide to int, and become like every other worthless player because riot did this to you. Unless you belong 2.5 tiers above where you currently are, enjoy grinding out 200-500 games scrub lul

You also do realize that you will be going up against the same people you were against in your placements. Matchmaking is based on mmr. Since you had 9 wins in a row you should have no trouble getting out.

I feel your pain man. Being stuck in Bronze for my 1st ranked season last year sucked. So I decided to avoid it for the most part until this new season started. I got placed B5 and told myself I am not a Bronze player and I know I can do better. I have a lot to learn and really my main issue is I am waaaaay too aggressive or agro. But that is my play style so I know it is my own poison. But making adjustments and learning got me outa Bronze. It feels good and I know you can do the same, based on those games you said you had. It will just be a matter of time.

Good luck!

You need to refocus your complaints.

  1. Get rid of placements altogether. Why are they here if you ALWAYS get placed lower than last season. Why waste 10 games.
  2. Fix matchmaking. It has nothing to do with being in "bronze." It is because MMR is designed to place people at 50% WR even before they are at the correct rank.

Also, I can try duo support with you if you want to try me out. I have to do my stupid placements again for duo-queue unless you want to Flex.

Just Duo your way out.

Find a high mechanical KDA Bronze (there should be quite a few such players, you'll run into them, plenty of people are good mechanically but are mere mortals and can't consistently carry out 3 to 4 total noobs).

Take 2 lanes (don't do the ADC/Supp thing) cause your map influence in the first 20 minutes is too limited. Mid/JG or ADC/Mid maybe.

Keep doing it, switch allies/Duo Q ally as necessary.

Meh, you did your placements vs B5s, went 9-1, you should be able to climb up a lil bit. When you find a good supp you like add him and duo.
