Should Riot Release ORACLE'S HOOD? - League of Legends

Gaming Curios recently made a video on an item that used to exist in the game way back, and I think with a few small changes it could definitely work as an item

item 1018 + item 3108 + item 1026 + 400 gold

+30% critical strike chance +65 Ability Power +10% Cooldown Reduction Unique passive: Your magic damage has a chance (based on critical chance) to deal 25% extra True Damage. In addition your bonus AD is converted instead into AP at a rate of 1.5 AP per 1 AD

This could open up a ton of new options for AP mages, item 3508 with this item would give 40% CDR and a way to restore mana, hybrid items like item 3146 and item 3124 would be more viable options for mages, finishing item 3140 into item 3139 would be more rewarding for AP champions since they don't have an AP version of item 3139. Champions with on hit AP abilities like TwistedFate could now make better use of item 3094 without going AD.

Edit: So after the discussion it seems like rather than an item this effect would be much better suited to something like a champion passive, might try building a kit around this at some point.

UM NO. Just no.

No.

Just no. It would be too hard to balance. It hurts my head.

Burst damage criting randomly doesn't sound too fun at all.

It's worth noting that the crit is only a 25% increase rather than the 100-150% increase that AD champions get currently

But it's true damage, so it's way more than 25% increase, especially vs bruisers or tanks.

Akali would be losing a bunch or efficiency from her passive with this item, any champs that are overpowered with it can be toned down or it could be made less efficient on some types of abilities.

It would be interesting, since mages are so trashy right now. Even with the mage rework they're gonna have a bad time finding their place in the meta.

Oracle's Hood + Essence Reaver would be very good indeed. But i would change it so mages wouldn't do so much damage from their autos. Maybe the AD from the item is fully converted into AP and you gain no AD? I think it would make sense.

Also it would prevent on-hit hybrid damage dealers such as Jax from building the item.

Yeah that was the idea behind the second part of the passive, converting any bonus AD into AP instead, though Jax actually could still use this, AP Jax deals some pretty scary burst damage, and if you're AP his ult might as well be a Kayle ult

even though an interesting concept, seems OP and impossible to balance.

i hate critical strikes as it is, a "sport" is defined as something that doesn't depend on randomness, which critical strikes are.

combined with this item 3115 = gg

seriously though, ive watched a couple of his videos, and thank god this guy doesnt balance the game.

the problem with giving mages lategame build pathes is that right now, all of them have incredible utility in their kits to make up for lacking lategame damage. if you gave them something like this guy wants to and add build pathes into the game, that give them a lot of lategame damage, it would make the class as a whole completely overpowered.

not to mention the side effect of ap assassins having access to critical strikes on their spells. which would mean their kits would have to be toned down in damage scalings to compensate for the occational higher, and luck based burst, so the class of ap assassins would be in a state where they had to rely on critical strikes as a form of rng to assassinate an opponent.

next problem is with so many lategame carries running around with mages having spell multipliers like adc have auto attack multipliers it would completely destroy bruisers and tanks. when everyone is a tank buster, then no one is a tank.

just because something is interesting in concept doesnt mean its a good idea.

I personally think this item would be an intresting addition to the game. Of course it'd need some rebalancing, but a bunch of champions could really benefit from it who are auto attack based like Azir or Kayle. The amount of items that only have critical chance and attack speed is pretty low and these are item 3094 item 3087 item 3046item 3086 , and there are two items that offers critical chance item 1051 item 1018 .

Eventually try to invent more items without like alot of AP though, otherwise a bunch of AP assasins would of course get broken. Though,,, when I remember right, people really hate critical chance lately, wich is of course understandable, but honestly this item would still be an awesome addition to this game if Riot would try to balance it propertly.
