On which champs, essence reaver is good?

i havent seen much of essence reaver builds until yesterday's TDK vs WFX game. Essence reaver sivir was exceptionalSivir item 3508 who other champs are good with it and, in general, which kind of champs does this item fit?

Remember the reason it worked, though, was because Sivir was spamming spells to force in waves constantly. She was forgoing crits to just become a wave shoving machine and turret pressure against a team with low wave clear. I would imagine it is for only a selective niche use of champions and Ezreal who is basically the Ryze of ADCs in terms of mana.

yes i forgot about that wave clear part, did hear it in the commentary :) thanks man :)

Urgot

It's actually really bad on Urgot in most situations. Manamune is pretty much required first item since the shield buffs. You need to go arpen next or you won't hit it in time for the tanks finishing their armor items. After arpen you really need a defensive item so you aren't getting blow up mid/late. There really just isn't any room for reaver and generally the situations where you're using a ton of mana aren't the situations where you're getting a lot of autos off - Q doesn't apply on-hit.

Interesting. So you're saying the reason why Urgot isn't picked much is because he only has three items slots.

arpen is LW + cleaver so four, + boots is five. Is your counter-argument that reaver is a good last item in a full build? (it's not, for a lot of obvious reasons)

Let's be clear on two things:

Auto attacks are just as important to Urgot as his Q. It's a full 50% of his DPS to fire off autos between his missiles. Sometimes you won't have the range to auto, and that's okay; but for you to do your job as Urgot, 80% of the time auto attacks need to be involved. This becomes even more crucial if you build items like item 3025 item 3078 item 3071 as autos can proc your spellblade/get BC stacks for you.

item 3508 is not a core item on any champion because of how wonky it is. Some champions can make use of it better than others, and those are the ones I listed. For Urgot, it's an item that helps balance out the mana costs of item 3043 by refunding some mana to keep the damage coming. I usually buy it if teamfights tend to run long (as they tend to do during this tank meta) so that muramana doesn't eat my mana bar alive. And yes, sometimes I get it as my 5/6th item. It's a situational item depending completely on the match in question. Do I need to be tankier in teamfights? Then I won't get it, simple as that.

So if you're trying to dismiss the item because it doesn't fit into your Urgot build (of which there are many, thanks to all the different stats he takes advantage of and his unique ability to be a marksman/bruiser/tank/fighter) then you're not being open-minded.

You shouldn't be auto'ing on Urgot (except vs. a melee champion in lane I guess?) until the fight is fully engaged; otherwise you're positioning too close. Engaging puts a fairly short time window on the win/loss of the fight and devalues slow/consistent mana regen.

BC is/was nice on Urgot because Corrosive Charge stacks it almost instantly. If you need autos to stack it you're probably using Charge prematurely.

It's not about being "core"; Reaver is a better early game item than late. Mana regen is more important early game; you get to proc the passive off minions more early game; ect. If you look at the high-elo games where it's built; it's almost always first item.

So if you're trying to dismiss the item because it doesn't fit into your Urgot build (of which there are many, thanks to all the different stats he takes advantage of and his unique ability to be a marksman/bruiser/tank/fighter) then you're not being open-minded.

It doesn't fit into anyone's Urgot build. People build it on Urgot 0.8% of the time across all elos, which puts him behind 13 other champions including Ashe, MF, Yorick, ect. I get that you like to put it in some of your toy builds, but it's sub-optimal and the question was who it's good on. I play off-meta shit all the time, but I do it intelligently and Essence Reaver on Urgot is just bad.

Caitlyn Jayce Ezreal Urgot all can use it to pretty good effect.

Duke Anax1 votes

not sure about Urgot there. His short range AA and long range Abilities make it difficult to proc ER.

I make the argument that it is a good pick up on ashe, sivir, jinx and ezreal. For ezreal it is instead of his normal tear build and for ashe and jinx so they can ignore the mana cost on their q and sivir for her pushing power without concern for going oom. The thing I point out about essence reaver is that it gives more raw ad than muramana does (unless you build other mana items) so it only gives more damage when you use the toggle

Champion that spams spells and benefits from CDR - Lucian, EZ, Sivir, Jayce; but BT's shield is just better, if you against assasins, don't go with ER

Zariem2 votes

Ezreal and Jayce can both use Essence Reaver effectively since they can also build Tear/Manamune.

ABlueQuaker2 votes

It's not really good on anybody right now, and it probably never will be. In the late game where it really matters, there's no reason to get it over a BT.

If I had my way, the only difference between BT and ER would be their Passives.

Rinky Dinky2 votes

I honestly feel like none honestly.

Most would get muramana, or don't need it at all.

The build path sucks, so it is outclassed by BT and BoRK

If it had a better buildpath, I can think of a lot of champions who could use it

Lucian

Graves (if you want to wave clear/dash more)

Urgot

Varus (If you are playing that Varus mid that needs to spam his Q like in the UoL match)

Fiora (I like using her Q and E a lot...and it eats her mana.)

Darcade3331 votes

Dat UoL match... :) After every piercing arrow, people were like "OOOOOH!"

Its not terrible on Ezreal or Corki, as a CDR item.

Its just clunky, Its a mana item with no mana stuff in its build path. That makes it bad.

Also CDR is the ONLY thing that keeps you from swapping it out for BT once you get the levels to not worry about mana anymore, and its not enough.

FarRockBF1 votes

Even MasterYi to top off the CDR and negate his mana issues. Really need to be ahead for this though.

Skia Asteri1 votes

Its main problem is it is a bad late game item on nearly everyone. It is a good early-mid game item on champions that really get good mileage out of CDR for damage output.

Nameless Voice1 votes

Anyone who wants CDR and mana more than they want pure damage. It's good for Sivir if you want to focus on pushing over raw damage output.

I have the strange notion that Quinn likes the CDR, but it seems to hurt her overall damage too much unless you can get it very early and use that extra CDR for your ult to snowball kills.

Frankly, the item needs a buff. 20% CDR and a better build path, in my opinion

It gives so little mana that it honestly isn't worth it at all. I tried it on varus recently and it's just completely meh. I didn't even notice that it was giving any mana.
