Can someone tell me what makes this matchup "balanced?"

I don't understand how League of Legends determines many of its matchmaking. This seems significantly off to me. Would someone be kind enough to logically explain why or how this matchmaking is "balanced?" Thank you in advance.

It is all based on the MMR of the other players they most likely have really bad MMR and win %. That happens a lot at the lower elos.

That is nothing compared to this

You beat me on that one lol. That's horrid. Their team was also pre-made? Let's just hope this is connected with League's lag issues.

  1. Normal MMR != Ranked MMR. Sometimes people play a lot worse in Normals than Ranked, either because they don't "tryhard" or they like to play non-meta things.

  2. Because it's very hard to demote between tiers, "Silver V" can be anything from "slightly worse than Silver IV" to "slightly better than Bronze V".

  3. As other people pointed out, "Unranked" doesn't mean they're terrible. Smurf accounts below 30 are all "unranked"...

  4. The median rank in NA is somewhere around S4, so players in S3 are only slightly above average (for Ranked).

Normals use the same MMR system as Ranked, just with adjustments made based on summoner level, number of games played (up to some undefined point), and bigger grouping bonuses for premade groups of 3+. But you have a totally seperate MMR in Normal and Ranked matches.

Why does Lolking say my MMR is 817, but na.gg says my MMR is 1003? Which one is most accurate, if either?

why do you automatically assume unranked is bad?

why do you automatically assume unranked is bad?

I, or no one else, said unranked was "bad." However, I am ranked with 300+ wins and I'm not understanding why this matchup is "balanced" versus a majority of Silver players. I've never been in Silver. Also, one of the guys on my team is Lvl 26, which means he has never played ranked. Sure, this was a Normal game, but again, what is Riot using to do the matchmaking? It can't simply be the MMR and # of wins as their website states.
