Changing Draft Mode.

TL;DR A new champ selection process consisting of 5 bans and 5 picks, inspired from DotA but tweaked to suit LoL. This is an idea as the champion roster increases as new champs are released.

Hello, today I was thinking about League of Legends' current champion select for Draft Pick.

This idea is inspired by the current Captain's mode in DotA 2, used for tournaments in DotA such as The International.

The picking and banning basically works like this:

Phase 1 Blue side BAN Red side BAN Blue side BAN Red side BAN

Blue side PICK Red side PICK x2 Blue side PICK

Phase 2 Blue side BAN Red side BAN Blue side BAN Red side BAN

Red side PICK Blue side PICK Red side PICK Blue side PICK

Phase 3 Red side BAN Blue side BAN

Red side PICK Blue side PICK

END OF CHAMP SELECT

This would mean that there are obviously still 5 picks for each side, but 5 bans. These bans however are spread out throughout the champion selection.

Why am I bringing this up?

I considered this idea as more and more champions are being released and more and more picks are becoming more viable in positions throughout all the roles.

Changes for a more LoL friendly champion selection Each player chooses their own champ, with a chance to trade after all champs have been picked, rather than the captain (banner) choosing all the champions.

The player who becomes captain is pre selected using the current algorithm used in Draft Mode rather than the first to click 'become captain'.

The starting team is always blue side rather than random.

If no champ is selected is time runs out, the matchmaking will cancel, and requeue all players who didn't AFK rather than selecting a random champ.

A reserve time wouldn't need to be put in place to try and shorten champion selection time.

Understood CONS of using this mode. May be confusing for some players

Longer selection process

Requires players to have a larger champion pool (although this is expected more now anyway as players queue for ranked)

Requires more communication throughout the champion selection process.

Anyway, what do you guys think about introducing this into games? Is it needed as the champion roster increases, or is it one step too far?
