Master Yi OP?

So I've been playing League for several years now, MasterYi has changed a little over those years but not much. I just get the feeling that Master Yi is like this big long running joke with Riot, I mean am I alone in thinking that he is just absurdly overpowered? I know you can shut Yi down with stuns and cc and whatnot but that aside his damage/skill required ratio is unheard of. You can be almost new to league and start playing Yi, build him wrong, and still do pretty decent in a game with him. In my own experience ( I can't speak for everyone of course) I have noticed that teams with Master Yi on them seem to win more often than they don't.

Reason he is Overpowered- Short answer: He has no drawbacks. Long answer: He has super speed, he can go untargetable, he can heal, he can kill multiple champions with one button- Thus he is a hyper carry.

I would like to see either one of these insanely good aspects of him nerfed significantly. -OR- I would like to see Riot rework his abilities to make them require more skill to execute.

Yi is incredibly Overpowered. But RIOT doesn't care enough to nerf him. They are too busy nerfing adc's who don't need it.

What I got from this was that you believe Master Yi is overpowered because he's a viable champion with a low skill floor. He's powerful without a high skill investment, like a rocket launcher.

Sniper still beats rocket launcher every time. Likewise, a player who knows what he's doing against a Yi will always beat Yi.

See I disagree, I think certain champions can counter Yi, but alot of champions just get facerolled by Master Yi and there isn't anything they can do about it.

The only time that there is nothing you can do about an opponent is when you stop trying, and stop communicating with your team.

The thing about a generic, easy champion is that they're defeated by generic, easy counters. As in, really common counters in any level of play that isn't the uncoordinated mass of blind queuers and low tier ranked matches.

He's a rocket launcher with unlimited ammo. Actually, the faster he fires, the more ammo he gets. (Attacks reduce his ability cooldowns). Attack Speed items are abundant in the game and give him even more power.

MasterYi :

  • Does True damage (Wuju Style)
  • Can kill 1-4 champions under a tower without being touched. Even Katarina can't do that.
  • Can tank a tower for his team with meditation
  • Can sprint to either run away from any fight or catch up to anyone, perhaps on par with Hecarim

No other hyper-carry is as powerful as he is. Katarina, Vayne, Ryze, etc. at least require a little skill.

Master Yi has the ability to choose which battles he engages in as his ult allows him freedom of the map. All of this ridiculousness aside, I'm sure Riot has their reasons for making him the joke of a hyper-carry he is, but I agree- he needs to take more skill to play. That's all I would ask. It's just too easy to play him. Someone who has never played Yi before can build his recommended build that Riot puts on a silver platter for you, and destroy skilled and experienced players. If you have the ability to click an icon on your desktop, you can slay 1-3 champions with a single ability (Alpha Strike).

Personally, I'd like him to stay the way he is, but just take more skill to play. Make him have to combo his abilities like Syndra. Surely that much power should require at least some level of skill to play.

Maybe the solution is actually very simple. Make him targetable during alpha strike. At least then he has the potential to be killed. Being temporarily invulnerable with his Q is like giving him a free, mini Kayle Ultimate, except that it's off cooldown every 3 seconds.

  • It's 20% of his total AD, which keeps him from getting 100 True Damage per hit without an inefficient build; also, it lasts 5 seconds.
  • This is assuming he uses an Alpha Strike that only targets enemy champions, and that all of the targets are low enough for it to kill them. Which may as well be assuming that Syndra always has 7 spheres when calculating her burst damage.
  • The DR is reduced against turrets, and it's the only defensive mechanic his kit has. All melee ADCs have some defensive mechanic to make up for poor scaling with defense items.
  • Whitey can run, big deal.

If there is no other hyper-carry as powerful as him, then why is he not 100% pick/ban rate in high ranking? Why is he not 100% pick/ban rate, period?

His stats, across all rankings, mark him as an above-average pick rate champion with a 50/50 win rate. This implies that he's in a state of balance where it comes down to the skill of the players of, on the team of and against Master Yi.

they need to nerf his dmg and nerf his ult or wuju style,That way he wont be fed af and be annoying too

Certain champions get facerolled by certain champions... welcome to Counters. Pantheon counters Yi pretty hard in lane or in the jg.

That is true, but Yi tends to counter champions he shouldn't. The problem is that you can go toe to toe with a master Yi if you are very skilled, but ther person playing Yi can be a toddler mashing buttons. But if you go against an equally skilled player playing Yi, he will win every time.

I wouldn't mind seeing a kit rework for master yi, his current kit is pretty boring. Right now its just that there is no need for thought behind his actions or any chance for thought to improve his play. I don't mind him having a low skill entry but there should be a way for higher skilled players to distinguish themselves.

I just hate the fact that's hes so ridiculously strong without needing ANY means of technical skill to play. Just played 2 ranked games, both times the enemy team got carried by master Yi. Fact is, all the other opposing players didn't even remotely play good (or as good as we did). They just got hypercarried, it kind of makes me angry when you know your team outplays all enemy members en then Yi comes in and gets a quadra. I feel like people just pick Yi in ranked play for easy wins (he isn't really a fun or challenging champion to play). Anyway, I know he can be 'easily' countered by some champs, but even then just a few kills for the Yi and it will most likely cost you the game. And yes, cc shuts him down pretty easily but I've read 'cc them' a thousand times when looking for info on how to counter a champion. Just try and lock a down a Yi with his insane movespeed... If you miss your cc once he can again easily wreck you. Had to get it out of my system, lol :D

Yi is way to easy to play they need to make his difficulty harder or just give him a rework.

I agree. Every time I see that I have to fight Yi in my lane, I cringe, usually followed by asking if someone wants to swap lanes. I'm stuck between wanting him nerfed or making him harder to use. I'm only level 13, so I'm not an expert, but I have noticed that even when I'm going full tank with Poppy he basically shreds me. No, I'm not bad at the game. I'm not the best, but I'm not calling for a nerf just because he beat me. Compared to all champs I've seen in SR SoloQ, he pulls off WAY too much damage for something that, at least to me, isn't hard to do. His auto attacks are unnecessarily powerful, having whole chunks knocked out from almost anyone he touches. Stuns are nigh useless since he moves so fast, I might add.

Also, necro bump.
