What to do as a support if the enemy bot lane is pushing hard towards your tower??

My last game I played Alistar support with Ezreal (we both had that one soccer skin so that's why I picked him) The enemy team was Janna and Caitlyn, and they pushed constantly, and poked like crazy. Basically we were at our tower last hitting. My first thoughts were jungler will gank, let's just hang in there, and when jungler did come Janna easily peeled for Caitlyn and got away.. my second thoughts was to out sustain them, so I rushed Face of the Mountain. Was that a good idea? I'm still learning, so I would very much appreciate some helpful advice

That's a very brutal lane to go against considering cait had more range and damage early on and Janna has always been a god sustain support. You could flash pulv then knock the Janna into your turret if you are pushed hard.

Honestly i feel your first mistake was playing alistar with a Ezreal.

I try to stick with this rule

-Do I have a adc who gets bullied Easily?

If yes -Play something with good harrass who can help push waves

-Do I have a adc who can fend for themselves? I If yes -Play something that will be good for the team phase

Basically if you play two people who get bullied easily for they both lack wave clear, than you basically shot yourself in the foot. Good lane bullies like lucian and graves leave support mains open for creativity in what they get to pick. However if you have a adc who chose something that easily gets bullied like a Ezreal or a vayne, something that has to scale. Than you need to view yourself as a baby sitter, play something that can protect and is damn good at it.

Thresh, morgana, Janna, stuff like that

To answer your question though

What you are suppose to do is help the adc push the wave, for if you let the wave push to your tower the following will happen

-Your adc will miss farm for very few people are good at farming under tower, even in high elo -You are both at risk for a tower dive depending on who you are against -Your tower will now be slowly be chipped away piece by piece by the minions and the laners

You obviously do not want to let any of these three things happen. So push the wave back to the middle and beg for a gank from the jungler.

get a sweeper and get rid of their vision at your first chance, then have your jungler double fist them.

Pretty much just sustain and help your ADC freeze the wave just out of tower range so that you aren't getting too much early damage on your tower and they can still safely last hit. I might not necessarily go straight for Face of the Mountain depending on the situation, but the second tier can be a good help. If the enemy has a strong diving jungler make sure you can keep vision up on the river and your own jungle side during the later laning phase. A deep pink on your jungle side can help for peace of mind if you worry about mid or jungle coming to put the nail in the coffin.

If a Janna is keeping up on her vision and any good you probably won't be able to kill either enemy without a fast, fed jungler or something like a 4 man ambush(neither particularly reliable prospects). However, if the jungler ganks you can use that opportunity to push the wave and back so you can keep up with the pressure and possibly turn the situation around. If you can, help your ADC fast push waves towards the tower when the enemy is backing off so they aren't stuck in an awkward situation where they stick around too long trying to clean up.

Honestly you just want to push and poke back, yes you'll more then likely get out damaged a lot of the time seeing as cait has more range, but if ez can land a q with auto plus another it'll be fine, honestly as support it's a lot of work trying to keep your adc in the game, but as long as he can keep farming and if you can maintain the waves then it'll be fine, when they try to push hard depending on your level tank the waves so they don't get to turret and make sure your adc is only last hitting don't push until the huge wave happens then it's on and you'll have a huge advantage.

A good plan as alistar, at least at level 2 is that if they're too close to the tower, you flash, pulverize then knock one of the enemy laners onto your tower, and they have two options, take as much damage as they run, waste a flash (And maybe a heal), fight back, if they try the latter, they get tower aggro and get in trouble.

Just be safe and wait for the jungler. There's kinda not much to do in this case most of the time.

Survive bot lane for the first 10 minutes or so, if you can't do anything to get any form of lead, the general rule is don't get them anymore ahead than they already have been.

Make sure you are under the assumption that your jungler will not have successful ganks since Janna... is Janna. This means, the purpose of jungler showing up is so they can back off for some time and give your ADC breathing room to farm. Not all ganks involve killing, forcing them to blow up summoner spells is an already good advantage.
