If you're going support then be AN ACTUAL SUPPORT!

I can't tell you how many times I've seen players play support role and pick a champion that is somewhat good as support, but they don't play like one. For example they DON'T buy sightstone, pink wards, sweeper. All I've seen is straight up damage, ROA, Luden's echo, etc. I love playing support, it's one of my main rolls, and it's not cool seeing others not play that role correctly. If you want damage sure go for it, but at least support your team!

Agreed. My expectations for a support may be low, but sometimes even that seems to be asking for too much from people. If you're gonna queue up as support, there's just a few things that aren't optional:

  1. Start with a support gold-gen item. You're not farming, you need a way to reach your item points. Let's face it: kills and assists aren't guaranteed. I don't care if you secure the kill, but sometimes people still escape regardless.
  2. Speaking of, don't blatantly steal cs. If I'm gonna miss a minion, fine it's yours. If I'm not in lane, go ahead and last hit them, better the gold not go to waste. Don't push the lane just for the hell of it, unless we're gaining some strategic advantage out of it.
  3. BUY A SIGHTSTONE!!! Most important rule of all. If you don't do this, you will be receiving reports from me, my queue partners and probably everyone else on our team too, maybe enemy players as well. I don't care if we win or lose, you are crippling our team if you don't have a Sightstone. Don't wait for someone to tell you to buy it, if I'm forced to point out the fact you don't have one, it's too late. I shouldn't have to ask, it goes without saying that you should have one and if you don't, you are trolling. Don't put it off, it should be in your inventory after your rank 2 support item on average, preferably before. At the very latest, you MUST have it immediately after your rank 3 support item if that's what you really want and no later than that. 3.1. WARD!!! It's not good enough to have a Sightstone. Use your damned trinket when it has charges. Use your damned Sightstone if it has charges, you don't have an excuse not to. There is ALWAYS somewhere for you to ward, don't say it's unsafe or that you can't leave to ward. Throw one over the wall. Put one in the damned bush you're standing next to. Throw one out in the middle of lane. Literally almost anywhere is a viable ward placement, don't make excuses not to ward cause there is no valid excuse EVER.
  4. Don't pick Sona, she's not a playable character. Hasn't been since patch 4.13

Personally, I'm not fond of the red trinket in a solo environment. Keep your yellow if you want more normal wards, grab a blue if you want permanent wards/safe wards/long-distance wards, or go ahead with the red trinket. I really don't care.

As for pink wards, everyone should be buying these. If you have space and spare gold, doesn't matter what role you're playing. Buy a pink ward, it's not just a support thing.

I prefer supports who don't buy sightstones over people like you who report for no viable reason.

It IS unsafe to ward. This is the snowball-oneshot-burst meta we are talking about. A support absolutely cannot be roaming to ward during laning phase further than the dragon pit and only at times when there is no XP to be lost from doing so. When losing a lane you SIMPLY CANNOT ROAM (Except for Bard I guess). This season is pure garbage for supports. Supports are XP starved and easy prey to ANYONE because of the snowballing itemization. It is priority #1 to hit level 6 for most support champions (and the ADC too for the matter) or else you'll get bullied out of your CS and lane or prone to ganks that will undoubtedly result in your timely demise. You CANNOT just go ward and more importantly, you SHOULDN'T be throwing your wards charges away. Sightstone only have 3 charges and those charges are spent EXTREMELY FAST.

Don't pick Sona, she's not a playable character. Hasn't been since patch 4.13

This is just a plain dumb thing to say.

How does warding over the wall you're literally already standing next to count as "roaming?" How about you actually READ what people say before you start attacking them and putting words they never said in their mouth?

This is just a plain dumb thing to say.

You're a hypocrite.

I can certainly read. I clearly said that no one should be throwing away their wards because we have a LIMITED AMOUNT OF CHARGES. Throwing a ward in the middle of the lane or in a bush nearby just for the sake of it is often a waste.

You clearly know what Hypocrisy means. I didn't tell him not to play a certain champion last I check.

"I have limited charges, thus I'm never going to use them."

News flash: CHARGES ARE WORTHLESS IF YOU NEVER USE THEM.

"We don't need vision of the bush they could set a trap in."

"We don't need vision over the wall they're throwing skillshots at us from."

"We don't need vision of the enemy in lane, we don't need to know when they leave or the incoming minion wave."

You sound like the exact kind of person who spends all game with full charges on their trinket and Sightstone. The kind of person who ends with less wards placed than the ADC. The exact kind of person I frequently get stuck with on my team in bronze.

Please never play support, for everyone's sake.

Where did I say I never use them? Is "not wasting charges" such a hard concept to understand? I see so many supports plant a ward in the lane bush when they clearly know the other team has backed and won't be back for another ~20 seconds. Yet, they waste 20 seconds of ward time for no reason. I see supports dropping all their 3 charges right away, ending up with no charges left and no way to control vision because they wasted all their charges.

I'm sorry you can't understand what ward management means.

I don't trust players who don't build like supports when they are supposed to be supports.

DrCyanide4 votes

Agreed. I'll trust that KSing Lee Sin support that built a item 2049 item 3364 item 3401 over an Annie without a sightstone

I completely agree; although what's funny about this is that had this been said in game, you'd be called toxic.

Then again... the support will need a good jungler.

Played as a full support build but ended taking care by myself warding ganking spots and warding the whole bot jungle.

Players that does not buy item 2045 and other essential support items either does not trust their ADC or don't know how to do support.

Yeah. I have been a support main for 3 seasons and supported 3 accounts up to gold 5 - gold 2 last season playing support.

All I know is that sometimes if your ADC seems as if he has 1000 ping and a 45 IQ, it's more benifical to go Sightstone INTO FULL DMG. At least maybe then you can carry his weight in teamfights.

Bard item 3092 item 2049 item 3285 item 3087

Dont worry, I have sightstone.

Duke Anax2 votes

Add a item 3025 to that and maybe replace item 3087 with item 3094 and you got one hell of a gank.

Support lux can out damage most solo lanes.

On a side now tote...as an adc I usually have most wards placed. I always keep yellow trinket and a pink out. I try to help my support ward cause the other lanes sure as fuck aren't going to.

Hell, if I am mid I keep both rivers warded and ping roams but people still die. Wards at low elo help sometimes but you can't fix stupid and you can't expect the support to carry your share of wards too.

I once had a teemo support, and he went full ap! :(

If they don't get a supp item, they will get behind on gold and they cant't peel as well.

If they don't get a sighstone we lack vision, and thus will lose kills, objectives, die more, and all the "damage" they built won't be enough to make up for it.

If they steal cs and kills the adc is now behind, you lack constant AD DPS, and might have too much AP carries now. If your mid and ADC is fed its harder to counter build that then if your LB and Sona are fed.

You shouldn't blame players but Riot.

blkh12 votes

how is it riot's fault?? everything is riot's fault? When do we accept that the players are the ones at fault???

Shhh, logic doesn't work on these kinds of people.

Agreed

You can be as off-meta a support as you want, but be a support.

You want to do double bruiser kill lane semi-carry bot cheese, then either still have one of you get a stone, or keep it for your 5man pre-made.

I support as ashe

ss, frost queens, zekes, black cleaver, linadry

poke and zone due to long range volley, burn and armor shreds and max cdr to spam it (yes volley and ult bot proc linadry) all the slows. and the ult, easy to ward with thanks to hawk

its funny cuz most games I have the most damage on the team. and have vision on every thing, and get a lot of focus while being decent tanky and hard to take out
