Bard Breakdown!

So, I have been a support main for a while now (all of this season so far and a good chunk of last season also) and as such I was pretty excited about him (epic new and unique support hypeee). Since he's come out I have played him pretty much every game I can and here's what I have decided. Bard is actually not to bad, even from a soloqueue stand point. I would Rank him as such: Out of 10, 10 is the absolute highest, 1 is lowest. Also, I am ranking him in terms of other supports ONLY, not champions. Utility- 10/10 utility. Best support in game utility wise(his kit has so much useful utility). Basically team wide thresh lantern (is limited by walls but still), movement speed buff and heal on one ability, slow and multi-target stun on same ability, stasis and a passive that gives him movement speed, mana, xp, AoE slow and damage. Seriously good utility. Pick- 8/10 pick potential. His ult is a 3.5k range 2.5 second CC. If you land it and then magical journey your team on top of your targets it can be really, really easy to set up long range picks and favorable fights. Mobility-8/10 mobility. Very good roaming and map mobility. Passive, shrines and tunnel all help him move around. His team fight mobility is decent as well but is somewhat limited still, especially by cool downs. CC- Its ok when you use it correctly but awful if you don't.... 6/10 if used correctly, 3/10 if not. Probably bottom tier CC support if used wrong. Despite his ult's usefulness it is not a good cc ability unless you are very very smart when using it. If you use it to try to lock down carries in fights it will often cause more harm to your team then good. Also, Q is hard to land, especially the stun, despite its usefulness.
Peel- I hesitate to rank him with this. He has OK peel but it can (like above) really not be good if you use it wrong. His ult is basically a free zhonya for his team members but it can also put them out of position or stop their damage output. His tunnel can cause similar problems also since enemies can take it. He could potentially give his enemies a perfect engage. I would say 7/10 at its absolute best (this is probably what you will see in LCS) and 1/10 if used wrong because he can actually hinder team mates with bad tunnels or ults (welcome to soloqueue and bronze). The good bards are gonna be decent at this but ooooh the bad ones are so terrible. This is why everyone hates him in soloqueue (even though he can be very effective if used properly).
Damage- yeaah he pretty much sucks on this front 2/10 damage although it does get better once you get chimes so maybe 5/10 later in the games (at roughly 80 chimes) Tank- also pretty bad. This+his low damage is part of the reason he has a pretty bad lane phase unless you land double Q stun. 4/10 Overall- Honestly one of the better overall supports in the game. Incredibly unique and fun to play also (I personally think that matters in selecting champs to play, just how fun they are). I like this champ a lot personally. He has a ridiculously high skill cap and requires a lot of difficult decisions and foresight in the use of his ult and E. And thats partially bad because those two abilities can and have lost people games when bard's use them incorrectly. Tips and Tricks- If you are fighting in an enemy minion wave, if you walk up to someone and Q them immediately, it is a 100% guaranteed stun. It will hit them if you are at point blank automatically then, since you're in a wave, it will hit one of the minions behind them and give you an easy stun. -Use his ult to get picks rather than using it in fights as if you use it in fights you will throw off your team mates a lot. -His E becomes more effective of an escape as the tunnel gets longer because of the movement speed advantage allies get. Make long tunnels when trying to get away. -If an enemy does take your tunnel, he will be right against a wall. Q enemies that come out of the tunnel, its a free stun ALWAYS. -His passive is nice for roaming but this doesn't mean you should roam all of the time. Only go when you are waiting for a minion wave bot. Often times you may just want to leave lane collect 2-3 chimes and come back before the minion waves hit each other rather than going all the way mid. If you don't have time between waves, don't roam (this is a good way to judge if you can roam or not). -Use his ult for picks, can't stress this enough... -Try roaming mid after you back, then using tunnels and chimes to return from ganking mid quickly. -Only ult allies if there is an obvious situation in which it is needed (i.e. cait ult or ignite.) -Roam often still, just watch the tip above. -Use your passive to harass in lane -ULT TO GET PICKS! SERIOUSLY Alright that's all I have for now! Feel free to add your tips and tricks or feedback below.
