I find this hilarious, we had people for almost 3 weeks bitching that URF didnt come out on april 1st. But now that it is out, people are saying it sucks.

And people wonder why Riot doesn't listen to the community. Its because the community doesn't deserve to be listened to. If I was Riot, I would downright tell this community to fk off since they don't know shit.

BetaDude4040 votes

It's because when players are satisfied, they don't feel a need to visit the boards much to complain. People who aren't satisfied are the ones who complain and whine (or rarely present very convincing arguments, but this is fairly infrequent).

I love the gamemode but I hate the players enforcing the makeshift meta.

Angry Monster2 votes

Its almost like the point of a game is to win..... man what a shocker.

BetaDude4011 votes

It's almost like the entire point of life is just so you get to die at the end... Man, what a shocker...

Not everything is about the outcome. I'd rather have an amazing game only to lose than to have a really shitty game where I just stomp the opponent and win

Angry Monster1 votes

Yet the purpose of the game is all that really matters, your prospective of how the game should be played out is not in the rules nor universal.

Stop crying about how people are actually trying to fill the game objective.

You want to be a casual fine, stop expecting others to share your perspective.

rtbf2256182413 votes

And that is the issue with URF. Everyone is trying to be Hardcore and it's boring.

Angry Monster2 votes

How much more childish can you get? People are not playing the way you want, so it is boring? LOL

The game objective is still to take enemy nexis. Just cause some of the mechanic rule are changed does not mean the objective changes.

In theory anyone not playing to win is assisting the enemy team, for failing to trying to win. Not trying to win is against the rules.

missinggrave2 votes

Okay, so first, I'd like to say I'm a little bit in the middle area of this argument. Mostly because the primary reason you're playing a game is for the entertainment, the ultimate goal is to win in some way.

However, when it comes to URF, fun has always been the key factor to it. When Riot first announced its arrival, they made an entire satirical article describing how "un-fun" mana costs and cooldowns and other aspects of the game are, so they were changing the game entirely to be as fun as it could possibly be. They'd basically just constructed a mode for people to go wild in because they felt like just making a fun mode for League that let people play in an otherwise normal environment ( no extra player to flame at or being angry you have to play a champ you don't know how to play for example ).

Also don't call people childish for their views. I can call you childish for being upset that people don't share your viewpoint on an otherwise meaningless issue. However, that gets neither you, nor I, anywhere in the grand scheme of things.

its called satire. Just cause they said it does not mean to take it at face value. They also said it was the future of league at the time. Is urf really what the devs want the game to be like? The answer is NO so some critical thinking has to be done, ESPECIALLY WITH ADVERTISEMENTS.

Its time to get real, not cherry pick.

You want your fun fine, Stop expecting that your fun is everyone else's fun. The game has win lose conditions for a reason. Their are objectives in the game for a reason.

If urf was to be a blind 60( 30, 40, 50, what ever) minute death game of just killing each other and experimenting their would be no towers, there would be no way to finish the game out side of time limit, and income would not matter. You would spawn kill until you are killed and then repeat.

That is not how the "fun" or rotational games are designed though. Stop making up rules and expecting others to follow your made up logic.

missinggrave2 votes

I realize it was satire, that's why I mentioned it. Furthermore, you tend to be arguing that others fun cannot account for EVERYONE'S fun, which is what I agreed with you on. I was simply stating that the intention of the rotation game modes was that it was meant to be fun regardless of objective play. The objective is the win, the intention is to have a more enjoyable time because of the changes.

You stating that your fun is more important than another's fun is the same as someone trolling for their own amusement while sacrificing your own. Neither person is in the right, thus my claim on the middle ground.

Angry Monster1 votes

If the game has a win condition and people are playing towards it. Why are they try harding? What are they doing that is wrong? I never argued that my fun was more important that another's. I personally feel when you try to use the word fun any debate you already loss cause it is subjective.

People are complaining that their fun is being ruined by people playing the game. My argument is that these try hard players are just playing the game and getting the most out of it with the rules. But everyone that complains is so worried about their "fun" and their perceived way to play.

At least all the try hards can point to in game rules or objectives for why they are playing to win. The win/loose condition is like rule 1, "how to end or win". When someone says they are playing for "fun", experimenting with weird builds, or just looking for kills then are not even trying to accomplish the goal of the game. None of those things are actually hinted in to game as what you are supposed to be doing. Yeah you have different tools to choose from, and have some play their. But you are not supposed to be trying to figure out how to get AP ashe to work. SPOILER IT DOESNT.

You know why death timers are currently a problem? Cause people that argue fun were not fishing games. So riot tried to force the game to end. The problem is that it backfires on who really want to play correctly, those that are trying to play to the win/lose condition.

missinggrave2 votes

You're arguing a point that I'm not attempting to put down. I'm not attempting to say that trying harder is in anyway wrong or that if you want to play strictly towards objective goals is a negative point.

And, yes, I realize that people are complaining about their fun being ruined due to personally constructed standards. However, that was never my intention to argue for them either.

My point was that there is a middle area, a place where fun and competition can coexist. When something is marketed as "fun" then the subjective part of popular opinion must be taken into account. You can't just listen to people who focus strictly on objective play for the same reason you can't just focus on the people who only want entertainment. Goal oriented players who care more about the competition are more than welcome to accept whatever rules they have to follow and if anything is inherently unfair - e.g A champion that destroys the nexus at level 1 - to play against. Meanwhile, players who want entertainment solely can't be trusted with things such as balance due to bias, but are EXCELLENT at orchestrating constructive criticism, and relaying information as to failed designs, or things that should be made next, etc.

You can't just say that people who use subjective standards for things aren't using a good argument, just like I, or anyone else, can't say that you aren't using a valid argument about competition. You have to consider both, otherwise there's no point in addressing either.

As for the death timers, that's more on Riot. They recognized games were lasting longer than they intended, but failed to consider alternative options or revert their change. "Fun players" may be at fault, but ultimately it doesn't help your case saying it hurt the players who wanted to play "correctly." The death timers shouldn't affect players who want to play "correctly" because they should be avoiding the situation and take advantage of the time their enemies are down. It's just another mechanic to work around. (( Also, why were death timers even brought up? I never referred to them. ))

Angry Monster1 votes

You can't just say that people who use subjective standards for things aren't using a good argument

I can, i will, it works and proven. So you have to understand subjective fails when it is on its own. Subjective can only be used as a supporting argument to bigger picture. When you try to argue what you like you then have to argue why what you like is better than what another person likes. You have to prove that you as a human are worth more than another human. Do you really want to try and say that you are better than someone else just cause its your opinion? That is beyond slippery slope.

Their is nothing objective that follows the i want to have "fun". It just ends right there. Everyone just says after that you are wrong for not wanting to have "fun" assuming that what is "fun" is objective. Again fun is not objective or universally applied.

As for the death timers .....

Yeah its the new problem is Riot fault, not going to argue that. The problem that it is replacing is the "fun" players fault though (belief). Riot would not had to change death timers so drastically if not for the players thinking "i can do X cause i wanna".

With the death timers i can do a logical train of thought. This is just an example

riot changed death timers Games were to long the "fun" crowd is not actively trying to close/finish games (using fun as a type of player)

Therefore the "fun" crowd were having to long of games and riot changed death timers.

my argument is far from iron clad but at least there is a working point. The "fun" crowd cannot even do that.

missinggrave2 votes

Okay, so NOW I can at least agree with some of your points. I still don't agree overall, however it appears that you seem to be arguing more on the basis of subjective arguments without prior evidence. This I can get behind.

No, wait, that makes no sense. That's crazy talk.

Actually, the point of a game is to have fun while winning. If you win a close game, it's fun; if you just roflstomp someone - or whatever expression is fashionable these days - and win, where's the fun in that?

"You play to win, but you try to have fun while doing it". No one can say there have to be the one without the other. ( Kindred )

Angry Monster1 votes

Actually, the point of a game is to have fun while winning.

that is not the meaning of game.

PaladinNO3 votes

No, and I didn't say it was either - the point of a game, and the meaning of the word itself are two different things, and cannot be compared directly.

Please don't make me question the linguistic skills here.

the people that are complaining that it sucks are likely not the people that complained it wasn't out. What do you think the people that complained about this game mode not being out are doing? That's right they are playing the game mode and having fun. They don't have much of a reason to be on the boards because their desired game mode is out and they are playing it a lot.

Elewd7 votes

its because the people who didnt want it back in the first place are on the forums, while the people who did want it are playing it.

It's not that some champions are too overpowered, it's just how the core parts of League have devolved making the game mode really boring. Anyone with any Sheen-based item can take your tower in seconds, snowballing is ridiculously easy, and getting aced is usually an instant lost. 26 second death timers at 14 minutes tend to do this.

URF just can't be fun with all of the poor changes Riot implemented this season.

I never played Urf but the whole point of it is sorta to make all the champions overpowered. I wonder how OP Nasus must be? To spam his Q if it ever went to late game, he would be a penta killing machine. He already can take turrets in 1 or 2 hits, so kinda strong honestly

revliledpembroke3 votes

Yeah, but if you face someone with a lot of poke, you might not be able to stack.

"URF just can't be fun with all of the poor changes Riot implemented this season."

I guess you weren't around the first time URF was released when champions had to be disabled. Or the second time around when those champions were no longer disabled.

URF was "fun" for about 48 hours the first time around, then the power picks in the mode were discovered. Now URF has a meta just as common as SR complete with pick/ban champions, low variety, and try hards.

Wimbledofy15 votes

Because they find it fun. How do you find normal league or any other game fun? Only reason these threads are getting upvotes is because the people that don't like it will be vocal and complain, the people that do like it are going to play it. If you don't like it fine, but don't expect other people to not like it just because you don't.

urf haters downvoting me now :/

Heckin Support14 votes

I feel like people would like it more if you just didn't see the same thing every game. It feels like no matter what you ban, you have the risk of just letting one little Ezreal, Fizz, Sona, Zed or Riven through. People don't want to try other champions, they want to play whats good and win.

Stormfather5 votes

Who cares what other people play? I play URF to play fun champs, and have fun playing them. I don't care what everyone else does. That is why URF is fun.

Mogarl9 votes

Because being shoved into your base at 11 minutes isn't "fun". There are 20 champions that are incontestably broken, 40 that are powerful, and then there's everyone who might have something cool or unique but isn't broken (then you have Yasuo who is still just Yasuo). I don't have much of a problem with the 40 that are powerful, but the 20 absolutely broken champs basically ensure you can never play anyone that isn't at least "powerful".

Personally I'm glad Riot said URF is only coming twice this year; means less real estate is being used by the over-hyped gamemode.

Dengeden3 votes

You can't get shoved into base, that's the fun part, your ability spam melts super minions. Of course, this is the same principle as the old (busted) feral flare (farm a bit, then win), which is why it can be unsatisfying.

SpecterVonBaren2 votes

Can't even get close enough to spam abilities from a range when a Zed will just dive you at mach 2 and nuke you with his ult + spam.

Dengeden1 votes

Zed has a hard time assassinating with all that hard CC flying around. The AP bruisers are the really annoying ones.

SpecterVonBaren2 votes

Not... really?.... Unless he dives several people who are on top of things then he kills someone and shadows back out before dying even if he does eat one hard CC.

Leetri2 votes

You haven't seen Urgod then. I was at the enemy inhibitor like 10 minutes into the game, we won at 16 minutes because I would just melt anything that got hit by my E. Easiest S rank ever. :o

Dengeden2 votes

Rageblade Bard has been the most fun I've had so far, I 1v2s all day, everyday.

Idek, 2 guys pushing and you can TP elsewhere and kill some people. Might as well get a banner but in my experience, you can either kill the guys splitting or push them back at some point.

SeekerofSilence14 votes

Played the hell out of it last year, and saw heavy effects of it. When it retired I'd become so accostomed to the mana regen/spam abilities that I was manaless within seconds. That's when I realized how horrible these modes are... ARAM at least teaches you how to dodge skillshots, or teamfight properly, but these are just for gigs (fyi I do not like TT, useless mode).

This year I played a single game on my smurf. My Fiora was flaming me (Cait) and Heimer for feeding the solo bot Wu when he came around and wrecked everyone. Issue was that we won lane, pushed down inner turret and killed him twice... He's just insanely op.

So yeah, that's enough URF for me. Won't touch the mode ever again. Crossing my fingers for Ascension becoming a regular returning mode!

V The Support V6 votes

Agreed.

Dominion mode has Ascended.

SpecterVonBaren1 votes

URF actually does teach you something though, it's surprisingly good for practicing skillshots and combos thanks to your ability to spam.

SeekerofSilence2 votes

Eh, you don't see how much mana it'll cost you for real and I think the negative effects outweigh this one. Plus, ARAM does exactly the same. :)

LankPants2 votes

I'd argue it does a very bad job at it since there's no real consequence for missing.

Erdamon7 votes

As pretty much everyone said already, what we need is all random (banning phase still being tied to it would be nice imo) so that assholes abusing the meta won't get to do this all the time

LordBrasca4 votes

Making it random would be far more enjoyable.

Penta Penguin6 votes

I don't get why people are so butt-hurt about a single weekend of OPTIONAL non-serious fun gameplay

If you don't find it fun, that's fine, but there's absolutely no reason for you to be so outraged by it

I personally don't even use my bans if I get them because I don't give a fuck and want people to pick the shit that excites them. You can ban half of the roster and many will still be OP because IT'S FUCKING URF MODE.

TL;DR - Deal with it or stay the hell out of our queue, thanks
