Why does Riot start so many features only to not expand on them?

Think about the graveyard of projects that riot has left for dead, not even counting dominion. With hextech crafting coming out it's clear that this is the newest feature they are focused on and I don't want it to be just another "meh" addition to the game.

The honor system is basically nonexistant, I haven't seen a ribbon in years. the only time anyone honors some one is if they are already friends and honor eachother for fun. It is a dead feature that wasn't expanded on at all which is a shame because it had a good premise (Rewarding positive behavior instead of punishing negative behavior)

Champion mastery was a neat little addition to the game, but ok now what? What does it actually do/bring to the game? Not much. There's no real accomplishment or reward associated with it, it just shows that maybe you play a certain champion a lot, not necessarily that you are even good at the champ. This is more recent and they have said they have plans to improve it, but its been a while.

Any sort of guild/team/"club" (which they hinted at in preseason)/social type of platform is basically nonexistant. If you want to find other people to play with, you have to use a 3rd party site like reddit or something. This is a huge fault that SC2 made, whereas broodwar thrived on social interaction. It is needed badly.

Not even going to touch on replays, sandbox mode, etc all the touchy subjects. What's going on with these features Riot and why are they left to the wayside so quickly?

I've always thought it would be a good for a Lore type grouping system.

Like, if there was a "Guild" for every major city type on each Server and there was a new game type where you could only choose champions from that city. Each team got 1 ban and then they would fight it out with the champions from that nation.

Demacia Garen JarvanIV Kayle Fiora Galio Lucian Lux Poppy Quinn Shyvana Sona Taric Vayne XinZhao Weakness: N/A All Arounder/No Clear Specialty or Weakness

Shurima Azir Nasus Renekton Xerath Sivir Amumu Kassadin Rammus Skarner Weakness: Fighters are often VERY limited to a specific range always wanting to be close or far

The Void Chogath KogMaw Velkoz Khazix RekSai Malzahar Weakness: Small pool of champions, scarcity of Support

Mount Targon Coming Soon Cause There Isnt Hardly Anyone from Here

Champions that are more individual-like could become, say, champions for hire that each 4 month rotation are sent to a "fitting" faction. This meaning that Aatrox would likely go to the Freljord or Noxus. Nocturne would likely go to Shadow Isles or Noxus. Maoki would likely go to Ionia or Demacia. Such of the sorts. There is probably a better way to put them, but this is off the top of my head.

There is probably more factions, but this is the big ones. Basically, you choose one of these factions, enter a specific game mode, then you get 1 ban from each faction. Then you choose the champions from your faction and then brawl it out. Whoever wins each match gives points to their respective faction. Every, say, 4 months, all players playing in the current faction get a reward. For each 4 month rotation that you have been in and won for your faction, you get a better reward than last monthly rotation. Say...

First 4 Month Win:

  • Cool In-Game Border (becomes disabled upon switching faction, re-enabled upon switching back and winning a match. Can be toggled between your Ranked border and Faction border)

Second 4 Month Win:

  • Cooler In-Game Border
  • Mystery Skin

Third 4 Month Win:

  • Even Better In-Game Border
  • Mystery Skin
  • 750 RP

Fourth 4 Month Win:

  • Veteran In-Game Border
  • Mystery Skin
  • 975 RP
  • The next in-game event/champion release is based around this faction

And so on and so forth. This would especially give players who care less about Ranked a way to have fun in the game and still feel like they are fighting for something. Plus, it's a lot more fun when you truly embrace who your champion is and what they are fighting for than just looking at a champion for their strengths and weaknesses. Of course, there would have to be some requirement for joining a faction, such as:

  • You must be Level 30
  • You must have at least 3 champions who you have at least Mastery 4 with in that faction This way you would have to have at least shown some commitment to the faction before joining. This also gives a greater meaning to the Mastery system.

Riot could focus on putting this in in Season 7 instead of adding in another complication to the game to throw things off again and continue to balance things around the current state of the game.

My understanding of the clubs, was that the clubs would be added with the new client. That is when the social interaction will change and become easier. They are also working on an app that will help with communication between players even when they aren't playing. It is only February, so I am not expecting all of these changes for a while. As far as the honor system goes, I do honor players. I do not honor my friends at all because it doesn't count as much. I also do not honor after every match because my honor will not count as much. I have little to no champion mastery since I don't play Summoner's Rift often at all. I wish they added it to Aram and other modes. Not sure how the Hextech crafting will play out. I mostly play Aram but the video that was made about it recently made it seem as if you have to play Summoner's Rift in order to get a box. I hope they don't make us play Summoner's Rift for Hextech crafting otherwise I won't use it much, if at all. I hope this clears some things up. If I am wrong, I would like someone to correct me.

well, the new crafting is actually tied to the masterie system, as you gain stuff for getting A+ ranks if i remember correctly, and higher masterie ranks(6+7) are also tied in some way to crafting.

But for the rest, i fully agree.

Sadly, I feel the same way about the honor system and the mastery. Good premises but not relevant on the long term.

See when you have no real world project experience and got where you are because of your parents and people who did all the work for you at your previous job on these "group projects" you never learn the ability to actually think things through completely. How is Y going to effect X? What is this really going to do? See all these really obvious questions any intelligent person would think and ask. Riot doesn't. Their designers are so dumb. Look at their social module! Has to be the most hilarious thing ever. Way to make an ingame feature that performs the same function as a text message. Still doesnt create a solution to find people to play with. Idiots.

It will play a role in obtaining rewards for the new hextech crafting system. Each week you get 1 chest by getting an S with a champion for the first time that year or having someone else obtain an S rank on your team.

You should be able to report/ honor people while in game. Also mastery system would make sense if it was based on how many S/A ranks you get, cause you can play many games going 0/10/0 and get high enough mastery points.
