"Nerf shields/heals"

So lately the boards have been plagued by posts about nerfing shields/heals/redemption/exhaust pretty much everything that makes a support. But my question is why? Why do you want so desperately to nerf supports? Yes heal and shields can be oppressive just like exhaust and any other cc but they all come at costs. Exhaust has a very long cooldown, Most heals/shields are very expensive resource wise, and the most important of all, it is single targeted(few exceptions).

Now calling out to the assassins out there. When going in to take off their adc and you see a fcking healing/shielding support, honestly, what do you fcking expect? They aren't just going to watch their adc and whole backline die to an assassin, without doing shit. It's what they do, they protect them!

  • Now with Numbers!

  • Shields 2op4u:

  • Lowest in the game : Sona W= 130(+30% AP) ||

  • Highest : Janna E = 240 (+70%) [Probably taric as well since he has a hp% shield]

  • Calculating with around ~100 AP , windspeaker's and a Redemption (Redemption and Ardent Censer share the same UNIQUE passive so they dont stack)

  • Sona 130 + 30 + 10% + 10% = 192 Shield at level 18

  • Janna 240 + 70 + 10% +10% = 372 Shield at level 18

  • Lets see a quick akali combo (considered one of the weak assassins) at level 18 with full build and thunderlords (info from http://www.mobafire.com/league-of-legends/build/akali-jungle-season-7-updated-444552 )

  • Q + R + AA : Q= 115 (+40%AP), additional 145 (+50%AP) || R = 150 (+25%AP) || Lich bane = 75% AD + 50%AP || Thunderlord's : 180 + 30%AD + 10%AP ||

  • Now lets say she has ~600 AP, ~150 AD

  • Her combo does

  • 115 + (240) + 145 +(300) + 150 + (150) + 112 + 300 + 180 + 45 + 60 = 1797 (Damage before armor and magic resist, its getting late and Im bored of doing more math)

  • Let's say that Janna did her shield, redemption and locket she would do :

  • 372 + 798(solari+shield amplifiers) = 1170 Shielding

  • 588 Healing

Now get this the best support shielder in Lol at full level with full items can shield 1170 damage and heal 588 from ALL sources while the weakest assassin akali full items and level does 1797 magic damage. Janna has to also protect the rest of her team provide utility, cc and watch out for her ult.

I know I didn't take into consideration many variables such as peeling and risk but that is also why you can't say shields and heals are broken. THERE ARE TOO MANY VARIABLES. Now lets get it over with and lets go all hate yasuo and leave supps on their own miserable lifes.

You realize that the shields/heals that most people complain about are the AoE ones, right? item 3190 item 3107

Then what's the whole fuzz about? A 2.5 second channel heal that does only 588? Basically just an akali q? On a 120 second cooldown? Locket does ~800 shield on a 90 sec cooldown but it had also had its aura removed. So, again what's the fuzz all about?

You're adding around 1400 health to your carries over her course of this fight. This, in conjunction with assassins' burst windows being increased, has hit all but a few of them really hard.

Also, all of this is added on to what the support already has.

It's not 1400 more health. It's 800 shield and 600 heal, if the ADC has full HP or close to full most of the heal goes to waste. Also all of these items have extremely big cooldowns and redemption has a 2.5 sec wind up. Plus it's what supports do. Just like assassins get to kill anything they see, supports get to protect that. A full combo is more than enough to blow the shield and most adc's HP , now considering most assassins have a way out and a way back in, shields aren't the problem. What the support has are ways to protect the team. They pay for it by having no damage, and most of the times immobility and squishiness.
