Kat Vs Ahri - help me out here

I'm low elo, so I know I'm still learning, but please explain the scenario below:

I'm playing Kat.
We are both level 3, full health
I throw my Q on minions and dagger is near Ahri
Ahri uses her Q on minions (missed me), then she missed her charm on me
Ahri is by my dagger on the ground, I quickly shenpo to dagger (land a nice hit), did a quick auto attack, then electrocute, threw a W to get back to farm
Ahri just presses W and does more damage than me (i'm assuming the 3 fire fox balls proc electrocute)

I had to use 2 buttons (Q + E) and a click (auto attack) for a poke and her 1 button W (Fox Fire) did more damage.

How can she be rewarded for missing 2 abilities & bad positioning (she went by my dagger on the ground), while I land 2 abilities and auto attack? (plus a W to move back to farm quickly)

What am I doing wrong =/

I believe Katarina loses laning phase to most mids, unfortunately.

Until you get something like a Hextech Revolver or Gunblade, it's probably best to just last hit with Q.

Her w is like 1 hit so she had to land other ability or aa u twice, her w with 3 hits deals like 120hp, your passive deals like 80 on 3 lvl and u didnt hit her with q, thats why. U both landed one ability

Minion do damage if you auto attack only or ability damage or both?

Send the replay I dont believe ahri did that much damage with her w. Her w doesn't even proc electrocute. You must've been hit by auto attacks the whole time.

No she isn't being rewarded. She has a w ability that isnt a skill shot. How is that being rewarded? You just sound salty that youre playing a champion that's trash this patch. If anything is rewarded it would be old zoes e which would refund you cd if you miss the skill shot sleep. However ahri isnt being rewarded for missing her skill shots. She just has another ability which isnt a skill shot. Sounds perfectly fine to me

When you auto'd her the minions started hitting you. 99% sure they did the damage.

Her W in early does less than 100 damage " which is 2 basic attacks " as Ahri main myself , I don't poke with W unless I charmed the target for the extra damage , most likely you were hit by minions and a lot a of basic attacks , don't underestimate mages basic attacks , they do a lot in early , and since it's level 3 , I believe minions ruined everything , Katarina Shunpo reset takes a while so minions can really punish you for poking

For the sake of argument, lets say the minions did some damage, then it's pointless to poke when Ahri misses her Q and Charm when minions are up. Basically, no matter even if she misses Q + W + E, and I go in Q + E + electrocute = Kat will still lose this trade cause of minons.

basically, I cant poke much early game at all.

But my q dagger on the ground procs passive + shenpo damage + auto attack + electrocute + her bad positioning.

She gets away with all that and more damage with a W?

I don't know the best way to poke her now. Kat feels week 1 v 1....its like I should just roam and wait for team fights.

As an ahri main that has played this match up many times, there is no way her W did more damage than your combo. Her W has horrible early game scaling, especially considering

A- she didnt land charm on you.

B- it was a rank 1 W.

You probably ate a bunch of minion damage during your attempt at trading with her.
