While I do sympathize with you and agree, you do have to understand why these champs are being played as support. During the 6.8 or 9 Mage Update, Riot even said that they were focusing Brand and Zyra into the support position, Zyra getting nerfed so bad that she's one of the worst mid laners to choose, in mid she's really only good against immobile mages but with the current meta everybody plays assassins mid, while Brand was changed to be more AoE heavy, although he's still very viable as a mid laner. Veigar on the other hand has always been a troll support pick since the beginning of League, because of his passive he can stack AP meaning he doesn't need as much gold as other mid lane mages, making him viable as a support pick. To be frank though, the only thing he offers as a "support" is his stun, the same goes for Brand. Vel'Koz however is a mystery to me, I don't know why people play him support and I've never seen a Vel'Koz support win. With Malzahar, and I know people are probably going to hate me for this, but it's really Magikarpusedfly's fault. Magikarpusedfly has a tendency to take uncommon support picks then make a video about it, exploiting this to lower elo players, which makes up the majority of the League community. Every time he makes a video about these "support" picks that champion, such as Malzahar, for the next 2 months or so is the most common support pick in lower elo. Please don't misunderstand, I'm not hating on Magikarpusedfly at all, I'm just pointing out something I've noticed.
But back to main issue. Brand in all honesty could and should get a nerf, nothin major, just lowering the base damage on his abilities by a little bit. Zyra is honestly fine where she is now, she has so much damage output to make up for how ridiculously squishy she is, take away her damage and she'll turn to garbage. Veigar is also fine for the most part, but his ultimate is a little too good, if you know what I mean. Vel'Koz is also fine where he is, you just have to avoid letting him get his passive on you, I know this sounds harsh but just learn to dodge, if he can't land his abilities he's worthless to his team. Finally with Malzahar, he should get the same treatment as Brand and have his base damage on his abilities nerfed, just by a small amount though, again nothing major but he has already been nerfed in like the past 5 patches so maybe it's you? Not trying to be mean.
in the "support" role. Yeah, let's splat the title "support" on them because they do nothing all laning phase, MIGHT build a sight-stone, then just shit all over everyone's faces mid to late game. Call me a fucking cry baby, but it REALLY fucking urkes my goddamn nerve that this is even allowed. Yes, I agree with
