It's time to rework death recap,seriously.

Hey there,

I'm sure all of you with more than a week of experience have seen it before. You're in a match,you're doing fairly okay,you have a positive "mistakes only teach you!" attitude. Gently farming minions,suddenly,the enemy jungler ganks,and oh no! You've been melted. "Oh well" you say to yourself;"It happens!I should be more careful of their core abilities next time!" With a positive mind (or a confused one) you press the deathrecap button and search for the reason you've just been sent to the realm of colorblind vision for 20 seconds. However,rather than an explanation for your untimely demise,you're immediately greeted with 2 empty squares that do not have a description,do not have an icon,just a number and innacurate % damage,sometimes even displaying an innacurate type of damage.

Now,i understand LoL is a colossal game in terms of code,it's been updated almost daily on bugs and exploits for years now and we can all agree the developers are doing at the very least a moderate effort to keep the game bugfree. But i think i stand united with many others when i say it is about time to revisit the death recap system,as of now it is a pretty broken mess,often displaying damage %'s wrong completely (e.g a 500 damage ability doing 90% of your health when you have 2000 hp) or not even showing the abilities whatsoever,and sometimes just completely bugging out,leaving you to wonder what could've possibly killed you. I've been playing this game for a few years now and this has been bugging me (no pun intended,i swear) since the very start as it prevented me from learning from my mistakes way back when being a nooby and even now, it is quite annoying to have no clue which ability chopped off all your health especially with champions you're not that familiar with.

TL;DR: Death recap is broken as hell,isn't it time to fix it?

I remember someone flaming me in game because I said death recap was bugged a while ago. They said "no why would they have it in the game if it didn't work?" So ever since then I just try to convince myself that scuttle really killed me with smite on that sad day in history.

Oh...I read "deathcap" and was like ? theres nothing wrong with it. That explains why none of this involved talking about AP.

I agree though, recap should be fixed. It's been broken long enough

Death recap should go away, and be replaced by Damage Log. Can also be opened while viewing replays. Can also save game's entire damage log for your champion in .txt format from within replay viewer. Damage Log has two components: Input and Output. Both show all sources and values of damage. It can be opened any time outside of combat, and closes automatically if you enter combat while open. Also shows Total Damage Dealt, Total Damage Taken, Damage Per Second, and Damage Taken Per Second of your last combat. Damage to and from champions is displayed BOLD to better differentiate it quickly. Healing is shown in Italics in green, and also added to output damage when applicable (lifesteal, Ardent Censor, etc). Physical/Magical/True damage are shown in their respective colors, while mixed damage sources display how much of each, instead of a single mixed value as currently displayed.

I find it funny, because Riot has done work on Recap before, it just broke again. It's just one of those things Riot can't figure out how to spaghetti.

If they rework it I probably wont be killed by a dragon wielding a static shiv again. That would be a sad day for league, dragons horde a lot of gold. They should spend it.

I died to an orianna the other day and when i checked the recap it said

Light Binding- 300 something (31%) magic damage

The funny thing is that i was playing Lux

When you are at your full 2k health and the deathcap tells you you died from 190 damage form the baron's flash in 3 seconds.

This.. this right here is why I tend to get soo pissed off in certain games. I want to learn and get better so that next season I can advance past gold. I can't do that when the death recap is showing like "50000 true damage from NOTHING" or one minion does 600 damage with one of his auto attacks.

I think that riot should fix this before the next season..

This has been an issue for far too long. It should be near the top of their list if you ask me; it's useless right now, but could do so much if I could get an accurate assessment of who's killing me.

died to minion_bad_passive it was a minion credited kill using an anivia q as the icon did 49 true damage(in magic damage text)

Or those times where you take less damage than you have hp for :D

I remember I got killed 100-0 by Ornn and his marksman ally and the damage numbers I got from the Ornn were way too insignificant to be a fair representation of what killed me.

Death recap is amazing compared to S5 and earlier. Sunfire cape damage was always displayed as summoner's Revive and it was pretty common for you to end up having "assisted" your own death.
