Tips for the Mid-lane

TL;DR I need some simple tips playing mid from mid mains (early laning). I have a hard time verse AD mids. Tips for playing Brand or Lux. I am not a novice player in other roles, just early mid lane laning.

I am a top main with support being my secondary role. I am Gold III, but when I was not quite as good at the game (last season) I played a lot more mid lane, primarily Veigar. I wasn't good with him, but if I had to mid I played him.

I basically stopped playing mid lane completely towards the end of last season. This was largely due to the rise of Zed. I also had a really hard time dealing with Yasuo. I didn't like the amount of activity in the mid lane either compared to the top lane. I just decided that I would be better off trying to improve in my main role and pick up support as my secondary instead of mid. I also felt at the time, mage items were pretty expensive for the stats they granted.

Some of my friends have begun to play support more frequently, making it so that if I duo or trio I have to play mid more often than I would like. I usually practice it in normals, but the changes to Veigar's ultimate, old passive, and the lack of mana regen items, makes him feel even less effective in the mid game than in the past.

He plays more like a mage hyper-carry and not really like a counter mage anymore. He scales better in the late game than in the past, but his ultimate no longer scales off enemy AP, making it harder to come back in a losing lane.

I basically stink in the mid lane after not playing it very frequently and the people I square off in the midlane are typically Gold caliber in norms. I am probably low silver skill at best in the mid lane.

I have been trying other mid-laners out, settling on Lux because she is safe and just started to play Brand for a more aggressive pick.

Any tips for early laning?
