Why is Yasuo still getting banned so much?

As we all know, Yasuo was a bit unhealthy with the tank build prior to the last nurf. (Which was proven to be the items itself anyways, as the item was nurfed as well to prevent a fourth champion from going the same route) However, after his much deserved nurf he is still banned so much I can't even pick him. I love to play him in the mid lane because of the challenge it poses due to how much stronger the mages are nowadays. Everything the champion does seems meaningful, and provides a window to play against. (Sometimes much too large for the Yasuo sadly) Here I was thinking I could play him again, but I suppose I'll just have to wait some more. Is there any particular reason, other than the massive "cool" hate train going on?

FTR: I never used that build, I found it demeaning to the champion as a whole, and it brought in a lot more "Yasuo Mains" into the mix that made it difficult to pick the champion on my team. Which didn't matter in the end, because as the two of us were deciding who was going to pick Yasuo, the other team banned him anyways.

Because his kit is inherently frustrating, so regardless of how balanced he is or not, most people won't want to play against him.

Cause we just hate seeing him?

Few reasons unfortunately:

  1. Players don't want to learn to play against him, so they rather ban him instead of learning how to lane against a Yasuo.

  2. Players ban him out of pure frustration. Not because he's OP but because they just dislike laning against him.

  3. Flavor of the month to hate, so players will jump on the "ban"wagon considering he has one of the highest banrates right now without really understanding why (nor does he really need to be banned anymore after the nerf...)

Reason 2 is a little more understandable personally. Everyone always has that personal counter champion they just hate dealing with. I myself just hate playing against LB. She isn't OP or strong, but I personally just find it very boring to go against her :P So I can't exactly fault the few people who just truly prefer not laning against a Yasuo.

But Reasons 1 and 3 are usually what you'll come across. Players are too lazy to learn how to counter him, so they rather ban him instead. Or they just ban because that's what everyone is doing right now.

Really unfortunate too. I don't think Yasuo is a problem to go against at all. He's easily countered by one of the easiest mages to learn (Annie), and can struggle if his team doesn't pick around his need for knockups. I've never seen him as a problem, even during release he had either an Okay winrate, or abysmal winrate. It's only until recently when the whole Tank Yasuo became popular that people started crying about him.

But eh, it's whatever :P Can't really change people's opinions on the board unfortunately, even if you know they're wrong and can prove it /sigh

Idk, but he really blows to play against.. o3o

Kokiri Star9/30/2016, 12:24:19 AM3 votes

because nobody wants an adc tilting its better to ban him than have your adc get frustrated, plus he's boring as hell to pla against. as a poppy main its usually (omg why don't you fight me) - yasuo, until 6 then you destroy the guy and he starts a flame war :P

I personally just hate playing against windwall. Even if I'm playing a champion that doesn't abilities that are blocked by it, it still screws me because my team can't follow up on my engage if Yas just windwalls. When I do play champions with projectile ults like Sona or Sejuani, and I can't cast them unless Yasuo casts windwall first, or is stunned, but a lot of the time he just holds it and then I can't use my ult.

Even without the tank build, he is annoying to play against, he is extremely popular, he is unreliable (feast or famine) and he tends to attract a rather toxic player-base.

Also, many Yasuo players tend to pick him without prior warning or any thought to team composition. I despise a Yasuo mid being picked when our team already has an AD top, AD jungle and ADC.

Personally, I would rather just not have him in my games. It is far less frustrating that way.

Listen here kiddo.

Wind wall. 10 flashes + Summoner Flash. Passive Sheild + Passive 100% crit chance. Finishes build at 2 items.

... I can go on and on.

Yasuo, fizz, zed. You will always see those champions banned, unless they get a rework.

OurLestrade9/29/2016, 11:13:05 PM2 votes

Not particularly fun to deal with, flying around winning trades with that dumb shield, resourceless CC and junk. One of those champions that just feels SMUG when you play against them, if that makes sense :P

PermabannedGaren9/30/2016, 1:16:24 AM2 votes

Because the idea of a melee champion who can lane against ranged champions and win drives people insane.

cough Atack speed core build, with lifesteal and 100% critical before 30 minutes , windwall that lasts somewhere 3 seconds, dash without cooldown at 3+ level, 2 knockups, no mana, passively regaining his shield which blocks 100 damage at level 1, and most of those mains are just flamers cough

i ban him. and Zed.

Shadowfang TC 3/10/2017, 2:52:12 AM1 votes

A few months later and this champion is gutted. But his ban rate is higher. I'm even more confused than I was. Oh well, now it's even more satisfactory when I win a match.

UberAffe9/30/2016, 12:01:16 AM1 votes

As an adc main I ban things that I as a solo player can not do anything against. Yasuo because he can block everything I have in crucial moments along with being an assassin, Zed because his gap close is basically 1.5 screens away and I cant qss his ult anymore.

Meep Man9/30/2016, 12:15:24 AM1 votes

Yasuo will continue to be banned until another popular ban comes up. It's why Darius was at an incredibly high ban status 3 patches after his nerfs. Once a new big bad appears, Yasuo's ban rate will likely reduce. I expect this to happen once the Assassin Update comes out, although the Assassin Update might break Yasuo since he will likely build modified items from the Assassin update.

I think once the Assassin update comes out and a new big bad appears in Balance, Yasuo's ban rate will reduce and, if he falls out for too long, he might become similar to what Lee Sin is now. Lee used to be picked 24/7, but now he is not.

TBH I don't mind playing into Yasuo because at my ELO they're mostly useless AF (top lane) and I understand how to beat him. The problem I find is that it makes no difference if I give him 1 kill or he goes 0/5 in lane. He gets two items, gets one lucky/good W, gets 2-3 kills mid game and becomes irrevocably annoying and relevant. To the point that if we both somehow end up splitting against each other, my massive lead means zilch. I know a lot of people shit on his W, which I think needs SOME changes (basically thin the effective zone within which is blocks things and maybe don't have it appear on yasuo), but I personally think his R is obnoxious. The shield reset, the within-tower-range-but-magically-beside-it, and the cross-screen-any-knock-up elements of it. I'm not saying strip it of everything, but come on. It's already the free-est engage tool you could possibly need.

"cool" hate train

it's not that you're cool playing yasuo and i don't like you to be cool.

I just don't like you to play the neighbor's spoiled brat that wants everything and gets everything and plays pranks on everybody. I'm the grumpy granddad next door who's windows you keep breaking so get off my lawn.

the yasuo ban is one of the healthiest bans in the game right now. Its a ban not because something is broken op and has to be stamped out using the ban system, but because a play style or strategy is undesirable in the game - without being oppressive and OP.

Yasuo is very popular. He also gets a lot of "one game a week without yasuo, seems like a nice idea" bans

Im a yasuo one trick and right now its so painful in ranked
