You Should Get An Assist Even If You Don't Hit
You should get an assist when an enemy dies even if you've never hit them if they hit you. You were a meat shield during the teamfight.

If you did not actively contribute something to taking down the enemy, you don't get an assist. Simple as that

"Getting hit" isn't really helping though. Like getting killed, there are more efficient and better ways to help your team.
Like using your attacks, abilities, items, and/or summoners against your opponents.
