Just because your support can heal you...

Rootworth··83 votes·6,461 views

Just because your support can heal you, doesn't mean you can be a lazy butthead (Mr. or Ms. adc). Everytime I play a support like Soraka or Nami, my adc gets lazy, and stands in one spot while farming while getting beat up by the enemy. Our heals can only do so much! Please don't take your advantage and turn it neutral because you won't try dodging skill-shots and so forth.

Edit: (Mr. or Ms. or Mrs. adc)* Gotta satisfy the people.

Also if you're not the adc, Remember! I'm the support, I can heal you or shield you, you don't have to die from the ignite- Hey where are you going HEY STOP RUNNING AWAY FROM MESoraka Teemo An ally has been slain

I've had adcs use their dash to either run away from or to the enemy while being one hit from dieing and being just out of range for me to heal.

Don't lie. You let Teemo die. And I don't see the problem.

As an adc main that fills a lot, guys: if you have a heal support, for the love of anything holy, trade. If you don't trade you've commit to a passive lane. If you trade, you win pretty much every trade because you have a support capable of repairing the damage done to you, giving you health advantage.

This doesn't mean walk out of the minion wave into convenient position to face-tank a Thresh hook. This means trade auto attacks, minor abilities, while staying safe from all-in potential. Most heal supports double as poke supports: if you get hit by an all-in ability, you in deep trouble.

So while you still have all your summoners, and your support has mana, trade like they have a shiny pokemon and you're the only one that knows what it is. Get that lane under lockdown through sheer grit and determination, make them fear your aas and full health bar.

Couldn't put it better myself. Last time I played Raka I barely had to use my heal at all because neither adc knew how to poke.

Mr Hydde27 votes

As nami your heal is also your poke, they want heals get in there.

As anyone else. you gotta train the adc like a dog, you want heals go get a kill. good boy here is your treat.

I think I got reported once by a Twitch who I healed and like 1 second later asked for another. I said it was on cool down and he said I was a noob. I was playing Taric.

khorney3 votes

Lol wtf I main Taric supp people think his heals are some sort of op . the adc I'm like it cost hella mana and doesn't heal for that much So stop taking cs so I can't use my relic shield . Grant it with spirit visage and max cd you don't die lol your heals heals you for like half your health. Taric heals himself for a lot not other people

Rew7115 votes

i honestly said, once, that Sona Soraka and Nami all have better heals than Taric because they cost less and recharge for less time. It's what makes late Sona so strong, also late Soraka and what makes Nami's so OP. Bard's the only one who's heal is just right. You can make a shrine for later (greater) heal or just heal your ADC for a small amount right there.

I once got flamed for healing myself as support and not healing the adc (they were at full health and i had just taken all the focus in a trade -_-)

Can we as a community decide on this simple rule? I propose that from now on there may only be one " Supporters are great, ADCs are not" and only one "Don't flame the Jungler" Thread per Week.

Further topics that may or may not need restrictions: Nidalee has to be fixed. Her spears are invisible. Lee Sin needs to be nerfed. Zed should be removed from game.

Rootworth7 votes

Sorry! I never knew there were a lot of "supports are great, adc's are not" threads. Although that was not the point of my thread, I was just stating something I noticed in my games; and I actually main adc, so I'm not being bias (support is my alternate role and everything else is fill if I can't go bot [though I doubt you care]). Although sometimes it's nice to play top/mid/jungle every now and then.

Kairya3 votes

there is another thread right now. If you sort general boards by "hot" it should be among the first 5. I understand that those threads aren't written with a bad intention, but they are fairly frequent. The original statements even vary a bit, but the comments below almost always go into one direction.

The " supports are great, adc's are not" sentence was a hyperbole of course. Those threads usually do offer a little more context, but I feel like the supporter as an archetype keeps demanding our sympathy with their plight. And the communitiy is set on thoughts like " Oh the poor supporter, gives up all his kills. Now lets give something back and support the Supporter-Role no matter what". It gets a little old, especially being an ADC myself, to read things like: ADCs don't ward, ADC's don't dodge, ADCs take all the glory, while the supporter does the hard work, Supporters are underappreciated, ADC's exploit their Supporters and so on. I honestly don't think, that most ADCs do such things on purpose.

This aggravates me especially since I also main Jungle, and Junglers are on a similar trip. " Everyone flames us, but you are truly at fault" is the core mentality of too many players. It seems everyone just wants some pity these days, and it annoys me.

Sorry! Sorry! Sorry! I spend most of my time answering questions in the Help & Support section, so I never noticed.

Don't apologize so much. It makes me feel like I am the Sheriff of Nottingham, robbing the poor and stuff like that. :D It's you opinion and you shouldn't apologize for it.

Joe Double2 votes

When is the last time you tanked a Caitlyn ult you could have lived through for your support who could not. if you can answer this question with an actual time then by my magic powers all of your requests shall be granted. Because i for one have been forced to tank ults that the adc could have lived through that ended up getting me killed, and its terrible.

Kairya1 votes

I play adc almost always (98% of the time) with my premade supporter. I might have pulled something like that on him as a joke at some point, but usually we try to keep each other alive.

Spacesuit Spiff1 votes

I make these threads a lot, and the point to me isn't that adcs are terrible, it's that because supports (and also junglers) have a very nebulous job, so when someone else on the team does poorly they'll demand those two make up for his mistakes, even if it goes against all reason and possibility. People who don't play those roles don't understand all the related logistics, so they just assume that if you aren't carrying them when they're playing at a bronze level in a diamond game, it's because you don't want to, and it's that mindset that's easy to make fun of.

Kairya1 votes

I honestly think that most people understand just fine. But who has the mindset to say and believe something like " My gameplay was terrible and I am the reason we lost" Supporters and Junglers are easy targets to blame for various reasons. One of them is this whole " we are the poor guys, who always get flamed" mindset. I think it is something of a sell-fulfilling prophecy. They insist on being flamed all the time, and by that they put the general idea into peoples heads. As a result they do get flamed.

You know, as a support main (although I'm new to the game) I have to agree with this 110%. As support, my main goal is to keep the ADC alive, and to get them the pentakill. I don't feel underappreciated at all, because the ADC always gets incredibly excited when they that pentakill.

To stay relevent, the issue you are experiencing is due to an ADC who doesn't trade. If they do not trade, they will overextend, and you can assume they have no clue how limited you are as a support. I have found that bot lane usually works best when they play synchronously. By this I mean both players poke when viable, both back when necessary, and both request jungler when the opportunity not only arises, but is in the teams best interest.

Lastly, as a support I have learned that it's very easy to focus on bottom lane and only such. I have had to force myself to ward very early on, pay attention to top and middle lane to see if my jungler may be able to help me out, as they are kind of like ADC's back up support early game. As soon as you look away from that minimap, Vi comes up out of NOWHERE, and your 5 minutes, 1,000 cs lead has turned into the enemy dragon lead. Which, as we all know, translates into...

"Support, you suck! Why didn't you ward?!"

"OMG ADC STOP OVEREXTENDING"

"Where the F*** is my jungler?!"

This is a somewhat unavoidable issue, but hopefully my input has served some sort of positive purpose.

Kairya1 votes

I agree with your experiences :) .. I'll add to that that getting that steady poke on to your opponents can be hard as an adc sometimes. My experience is that I either fall into a certain rythm between poke, cs, and canceling AAs and things work out great. If I don't then my entire gameplay suffers under it, maybe because I start overthinking things too much, I don't know.

Raxicor2 votes

Hm, this thread doesn't fall into any of those proposed threads. Just because a thread is about support mechanics it doesn't mean its anti-adc. They were just observing the problem of the mana wasted on adcs that take free poke when they don't need to.

Kairya2 votes

So what does the top-voted comment sound like to you? I think there is something in it about ADCs needing to be trained like dogs. Yes I get it's a joke, but it's still a negative one.

Also you can interpret the original comment to say things like: ADC's tend to get lazy or ADC's intentionally don't dodge skillshots Your sentence ("ADC's that take free poke when they don't need to") confirms my opinion.

Raxicor2 votes

I know I've taken free poke as ADC before. Its not like we're all oriented to one character type. I play all around the board. Also you misquoted "on adcs that take free poke when they don't need to" does not mean all adcs across the board purposefully take free poke. I only stated that there are those that do and it was the point the OP was making.

I'm sorry if any of this sounds negative from my end. I didn't intend it to be.

Well to be honest, the entire Meta is training us like dogs. We have 1 top, 1 mid, 1 jungle, and 2 bot every game in order to get that treat victory screen at the end and a little IP.

IcyPepper2 votes

He's not saying ADCs aren't great, he's actually giving a great tip on not letting a healing support let you get lazy. Just like a Thresh lantern, confusing peels for engages, and so on.

Yep, as someone who mains with Sona I can agree. ADC's tend to go nuts with being reckless and die and die often. It's somehow MY fault that my heals are on a constant cool down when they keep tower diving people that have 50-40% health.

It's funny how often leaving to help push mid or top will actually do more than continue to help the idiot that caused us to lose bot lane.

I prefer for my healer to heal me in combat while I at least try to dodge things, even though I'll still get hit by a lot of thing but I never allow any support heal go to waist. When ever I try to get my prefs in rank I still have other options to choose from and I usually play support as my second role for one good reason. I understand both support and adc and how they should work together.

Shogunai1 votes

That is a great point, knowing both aspects really helps in not overall position, what an what not to look for, it helps instinctual an decision making. You can also learn how support impacts from other roles as well suck as jungling. I spend a decent amount of time jungling at the beginning of season 5 preseason an knowing every possible angle a jungler can come from helps with know when an when not, where an where not to ward. Knowing other roles has significantly helped my support play.

Joe Dredd1 votes

Except that's what you do. If I'm adc and I have Vamp Scepter while the enemy AD has a pickaxe, I'm going to trade with them. I'm going to take damage, and I'm going to heal it off while they struggle to force an all in. A healing support simply subs for lifesteal
