Optimal Situations For Runaans-Honest Opinions Pls

Vivid Mandala··1 votes·858 views

I started thinking about this commonly considered "noob-trap" after reading a reddit post on the subject. The author considered Runaans to be situational item certainly, but not utterly useless. He presented some examples, one being in late game, with on-hit champions such as Varus or Teemo (huehue, that aoe ap satan poison tho). What situations do you guys think that Runaans are good, regardless of how rare these situations appear?

I like it on Kalista to use Rend on a champ near minons, so I can slow them and kill a minion so I can skip the cool down.

Interestingly, because of how many melee carries are jacked up on flat AD or Crit Chance or on hit effects, Runaan's Hurricane is actually gold efficient on many of them. I mean, I have legitimate actual math to back this up, if you want to maximize for DPS per gold spent, Runaan's Hurricane tends to be really close to extremely optimal buys for certain melee carries.

so long as you plan on selling it when you are full build

TehNACHO1 votes

Well yeah, hence "maximize for DPS per gold spent".

ya rushing runaans on Tryndamere is OP as fuk

AtheosisX1 votes

Seeing as it does nothing on melee champs I'm going to have to say you are wrong on that one.

TehNACHO1 votes

70% attack speed says otherwise.

Remember what I said: "Jacked up on Flat AD or Crit Chance or on hit effects". Now just think for one second here, what stat works multiplicatively with all of these things I just listed?

maikokk3 votes

i think hes actually mistakenly saying that melee champs dont benefit from any of the stats because its "ranged only"

Noted.

I will admit it's rather funny that you can buy Ravenous Hydra on ranged and Runaan's on melees.

Ravenous Hydra is honestly pretty good on ARAMS and that; it gives huge AD and lifesteal, and isn't as bad as Sanguine Blade.

item 3181 is OP as fuck you you have high attack speed

senquine blade is OP as fuck you you have high attack speed

Ravenous Hydra has the same AD, 3% less lifesteal, and 100% base hp regen increase, and does not require stacking to become useful.

maikokk1 votes

it also costs 1k more .

in a fast snowball game like aram where most games dont go half build, this is super important

Sire Hippington1 votes

well, that depends alot on your champion, if you want it more for your ad-ratios rather than AAs, Hydra is better as you don't have to stack(with graves for example, you usually open with your burst befor you can get any stacks)

However, item 3508 is even better for caster like carrys...

AtheosisX1 votes

If you are just buying it for attack speed you are wasting your money.

TehNACHO1 votes

Mmmno. As I said, hard math to back up that it is not a waste of money; in fact quite the contrary. It's gold efficient, moreso than any other possible item if the goal is 'Physical DPS'.

AtheosisX1 votes

Where is this hard math you speak of?

TehNACHO1 votes

Relevant. Math is plugged into graphs.

For targets between 0 and 172 armor, it is the 5th item of a continuing chain of gold efficient items. You'll also find in the many links of the graphs I provided that it nearly consistently competes with the most gold efficient item for any item slot at any given time.

any situation where you are fighting off super-minion waves and already have item 3087

any situation where your team is in desperate need of pushing power.

any champions that have attack modifiers with high base values Gnar Teemo VarusKalista that it will apply

especially when the modifiers apply AOE Kayle Jinx which increases not only your overall damage, but your single target damage exponentially via the splash from the extra 2 procs

Jinx has aoe, other than ult?

i cant respond to this comment due to the "dont be a jerk" rule

edit yes, her rockets on "switcheroo" increase her range and apply massive AOE damage that crits

Sire Hippington1 votes

crit yes, lifesteal no

o

Rebonack1 votes

It's okay on Kayle and Jinx. Even then, they both have better options.

Honestly?

Recurve Bow needs to get remade as well as the items that build out of it.

Dagger + combine = Recurve with 30% IAS and 15 OnHit magic damage. That would give Hurricane a bit of OnHit damage to work with AND make the buildup for Wit's less terrible.

AtheosisX1 votes

You already have your answer. Late game on ranged on-hit champs.

Sire Hippington1 votes

whenever you got your core(IE+Lifesteal+either more crit or LW) and your enemys tend grouping close together. The aoe from hurricane isn't all that big, so even if the enemys spread out only a little, it's often already enough to negate the aor from hurricane.

It doesn't even depend alot on your champion, even a draven will get more total dps from hurricane than from PD, but only if atleast 3 enemys are grouping in a 400 aoe, which rarly happens and thus hurricane rarly is effective

Lord Dusteon1 votes

If your building for on-hits, then it's great lategame to spread the joy to more people. Otherwise it's meh.

DJ Siamak1 votes

It's okay on Teemo or Kayle in some builds but you should literally never build it otherwise.

graves e quick draw for every auto it reduces the cd by one second and fortunately enough getting runnans on him reduces it for each hit including the passive

Gorzke1 votes

It is OK once you realice it gives you +100% Bonus AD on attack.

It is also Good on Urgot Bruiser, as it propagues his 15% Damage Reduction in teamfights.

Optimal situation for Runaan's? A fed Twitch

I did some math: any time you don't start item 3031 or item 3078 it's actually a good idea to get item 3085 as second item.

The crit on Infinity Edge only increases your dps by 37,5 %, while Runaan increases it for 240% (70% on main target and 2x50%x70%)

IE is only better for the huge AD burst, but when you already have AD, the difference is less and Runaan gives you nearly the same duelling power, but also greatly increases your AoE (Lifesteal !)

Also on PBE, IE is reduced to 20% crit chance, meaning only 30% dps increase. So if you start any of item 3072 item 3508 or item 3146, getting item 3085 second is a good idea. Btw if you plan on Runaan second, that makes Gunblade a really good starting item, because you gonna reload like mad. (under 5 seconds) Then you get item 3087 as third item (lightning on every second shot) and then you get item 3031 So, when you start item 3031 item 3087 you could also get item 3085 third. (insert lifesteal where appropriate)

Also Runaan can be choice whenever you have built in on hit effects: Kayle Jinx Teemo Twitch Ashe or get on-hit items: item 3115 item 3091 item 3071 item 3153 item 3022
