So what will matchmaking be about, number of premades or mmr?

This seems pretty substantial to me, since the system will take number of premades as an important factor to match players, matching them with appropriate mmr on both teams seems difficult. Either queue times go up a lot or there will be more variance in player skill..

let's put it this way. hots has this system and high elo hots players generally don't play ranked unless they have a 5 man online. ^^

It should be based on both..... Currently in fives the mmr of the group is the average of the premade increased % based on the number of people in the premade. This should be carried over to ranked. SO as a example. Lets say you have 2 people with 1000 mmr You would then have a average of 1000 then do a 20% increase so that is 1200 mmr for a premade. And a Third for a 30% increase to 1300. And a 4th for a 35% for a 1350 and a 5th for a 37.5% or 1375 mmr.

Also if you have a non premade added their elo would be comparable to the average of the groups increased average. So in this example if you had 4man premade with a average of 1000 mmr + the % so 1350. Your 5th man should have a mmr AROUND 1350 1300-1400. Kind of thing.

These are made up numbers but the generalized description is accurate. I do not have the actual % amount it is increase per person. At least this is my understanding of the MMR system.(Their equations are hidden and specific to this game)

*Edit They are removing it so I am wrong it will just be the average mmr of the group not balancing for communication like they used to.

This is already a problem in current ranked games when you have an 800 mmr and a 1200 mmr premade they are 1000 combined and would be matched with and agaisnt 1200 mmr players, but here is the catch. that one 800 mmr player is not on the same skill level, often resulting in too much feeding bad warding bad teamfighting, your team is now literally 4,5 players and the enemy team is not. So 3 other teammembers suffer because 2 ppl wanted to play together.

In normals i couldn't care less but in ranked this is annoying as hell. Sure this doesnt alwasy happen sometimes they are both 1000 mmr and its less problematic but they are still worse then the rest fo the team. And sometimes you dont even notice they are there that happens too.

But i dont think non premades should be punished for matching premades against higer tier opponents they quite often can not handle yet. Its not healty for ranked games.

5 man premades in high challenger - Professional teams could probably just camp the top ranks. (inb4 SKT going 10000 wins 2 losses next season)

Other then that, depending on how good your team work is, players will probably be able to get up a tier or 2 because players in low challenger, masters, diamond etc. tend to be fairly on the same level of skill.

Well considering the average que times now are >1 minute, I really wouldnt mind too much if they went to about 3-4 minutes.
