Are 10 Bans Really Neccessary?

So, I just want to start off by saying that I main midlane, and VERY heavily favor Yasuo. He's my absolute favorite champion. But with the incoming establishment of ten bans, I feel like I pretty much will never get to play him again unless I take the time to climb to a higher elo, and even then it's not a guarantee. But this isn't a Yasuo qq thread, as much as it's a post of concern. There are going to be a lot of fun champions that aren't going to see the light of day any more simply because a lot of people "don't like them." Basically say goodbye to Yasuo, lee sin, graves, Leblanc, fizz, etc etc. Are we really sure that two extra bans per side are needed? Personally, I don't want Yasuo to be reworked into some shitty unrecognizable new champ that gets dumpstered and forgotten simply in the name of making him less ban worthy; I can't imagine how mains of other undesirable champs feel.

There is over 130 champions and we only have the option to ban 6 of them...10 bans is highly overdue.

Yes. I very much like the idea of a 10 ban system as it will force people to pick non-meta champs many of which don't see much play time right now as champions like yas, fizz, kat, graves, zed ,ect. are so sought after. At my rank (s4), my main (lux) will probably be banned often as well. Also, it will allow teams to not only ban those strong/ popular champs but allow them to ban some that are more based on what the player doesn't want to play against.

how slow riot is taking to implement 10 bans, we might need 12 bans by the time we get 10 bans. I would expect to see a lot more variety of champions played with 10 bans, which will actually be nice not seeing zed, gangplank, and yasuo nearly every game. Also i think you are wrong about certain champions never seeing the light of day, maybe for a patch or two if the champion is OP they might be banned a majority of games. But for the majority of games people are going to ban the champion that counters their champion the hardest.

From a pragmatic standpoint, you might want to learn to love another champ, possibly one with a low pick/ban rate. I've never been so into a champion (particularly any with high pick/ban rates) that I've been unsettled over getting banned or out-picked. It's probably a terribly sucky feeling to expect that your champ is going to be banned in, say, 50%+ of games once 10 bans comes around. I feel for you. But since it is coming, trying to change your mindset might help you weather the change when it does come.

That said, I don't think 10 bans are necessary. In anything outside of premade full teams, even 6 bans seem unnecessary. I think confirmation bias has a lot of people overestimating the value bans provide.

Having two extra bans per team helps balance out games. The champion pool is much larger than it used to be and some champs like lulu and gangplank have always seen a high pick or ban rate, and some like graves or lucian started seeing higher pick or ban rates simply because of changes to the champion or items they use. As the champion pool grows, so does the pool of champions we would rather not have to deal with in our ranked games. Im not saying that certain champions need to be always banned from competitive play. If they were broken to the point where it wasnt fair to play against them, riot would rework or rebalance them. What champions, builds, playstyles, etc that are popular are and have always been heavily effected by higher level competitive play. Thats why things like tank ekko and teemo jungle were things, despite their kit intentions. Eventually, everyone needs to learn their champions and how to play them against every matchup if they are aiming to get better at the game. And perma banning those matchups is not a solution, because if that champion ever slips through the ban phase and you have to play against it, you will be at a loss for what to do.

Take yasuo for example. Marksmen mains hate him, not for his double crit passive, not for his mobility, not for his dueling potential, but for his windwall. It is hard for a marksman to fight a yasuo when he is using his windwall since it can block missiles. Its not impossible, you can simply walk away from the fight and the windwall and abuse him while it is on cooldown or he is away from it. But that sense of "I cant fight this if I cant even hit this" is what drives yasuo to have such a high ban rate in lower ELO.
