Why can't we honor enemies in the new honor system?

Sometimes the nicest, friendliest, or chillest people can be the enemy. I'd be sad if I couldn't honor someone who deserved it on the enemy team. For example if they had a rough lane but stuck through, got flamed but dealt with it in a positive way, or made the game more fun in general.

They expressed that honouring opponents was something they were looking to expand into after the initial release, but for release they want to keep things as simple as possible.

Lately, I've been running into really chill enemy players. It's a nice experience. Like, at the end of every game, we strike up conversations and I sometimes end up adding them. It's awesome to see this side of the community.

Yeah if they do so, you should have 3 ways of honoring then.

Well played: These players outdone you (and your team even) and deserve praise for their skills in the game.

Disciplinarian: Defending the enemy team form toxicity from their own team. Should be awarded to enemy player for who refuse to tolerate trolls and toxic players abusing your team.

Humble: Win or lose, these are players that is gentlemen.

I made two friends two games in a row with people who handed my ass in lane and were chill in all-chat while my team flamed me.

...they were both Yasuos...

To expand on MysticMan answer: they want to make Honour counts in order to push people to behave better because they want to get Honour. So they want to promote people giving Honour, almost force people to participate in the Honour system, and the easiest way to do that was to strongly encourage people to give Honour every game. And how do you make people give Honour? You force them to go through a neat and clean interface where they can easily do it. But neat and clean means you have to present as few options as possible, and that meant removing opponents (or the possibility to honor multiple people), the reasoning being that you interact with your team much more, so you have more reasons to honor them on average.

(From my experience, you also have more reasons to report them too, but that's another story.)

I don't honor an ennemy because he's friendly or... I honor one :

  • if he was strong
  • or i played against him directly during laning phase (i won't honor if its illaoi, teemo, jayce, teemo, quinn, heimeir... or any bs at the top).

But u don't need to communicate with ennemies during the game, unless u wan't to taunt or be taunted.

Because all enemies are inherently dishonorable for daring to challenge you.

For some odd reason only Riot understands.

Or when a said enemy is having a fight with his teammates but he has survived the horrors and is actually the best performing player on his team.
