The Death of Ryze

So we can all acknowledge that Ryze was pretty strong at a couple points after his rework. And Riot rightfully nerfed him to a decent state. The Big nerfs came in patch 7.4 with the e bonus damage being reduced to 80% from 100%. Then in 7.5 a follow up patch saw a nerf to the e cool down and the w root duration. Now I totally understand the 7.5 patch as it needed to reduce his utility what I don't get was the straight up 20% damage reduction on Ryze's primary damaging ability. Ryze currently sits at a 40% winrate. Which is the lowest out of all viable midlaners.

I don't see the problem with letting a level 13 (The level in which you reach max e and q rank) Ryze who has made it to the midgame without feeding earlier be able to one rotation people. I mean there are plenty of champs that can do the same thing all throughout the game. Currently Ryze just goes though a rotation of spells leaving an enemy at around 300 health and then ends up dying because that carry has lifesteal or outdamaged them. And if you're gonna say that being able to one rotation someone without letting them move is OP. Lets take a look at some other popular mages. Ahri can currently do so without having to hit a single ability some cases she needs a w and 2 ult charges with a lichbane auto attack, Syndra can still one shot a carry with the press of a button. Taliyah can easily obliterate multiple carries with a well timed e w combo. Orianna can do it with ease as well.

Overall for a champ that sacrifices an ultimate and his e is just set up in order to make the choice between damage and utility in his other two spells he should be able to do just that. I understand it was for pros who were abusing the champ. But I feel as if these nerfs were obnoxious. I wanted to post this earlier because I though the nerfs would be too much but decided to wait. Now 4 patches later the guy is in the gutter and hasn't seen pro play in a while. I really like the mage and how mastery his combos and understanding when each is more effective feels so rewarding. But he does feel weak unless he is snowballed really hard in lane which is also hard as typically you just farm. Anyway thanks for reading a feel free to post below.

I totally agree. I watch a lot of LCS and remember thinking even before the nerf that he seemed pretty healthy. He wave clear and was ez to play against in pro play with the use of QSS and proper tanking of his qs. I don't know I just don't like seeing such a well designed mage go to the shit pile with other champs

Problem is that you are comparing him against the wrong champions. He is supposed to be compared with Vladimir and Swain as someone who is tanky but will take several rotations to kill you (thats why old ryze had so much spell steal on his ult).

New ryze was having a hard time fitting that role as he was doing too much damage, I think he should be back to healthy if they were to give him a bit more resistances.

A big if. After most Ryze players saw him as too weak to be viable in most situations, Riot nerfed him again. He's been a laughingstock win rate for several releases at the low end, and now is at diamond and platinum as well. I just don't think he's on Riot's radar, though I'm honestly not sure how they could miss this since his win rate is SO far lower than all other champs.

I despise modern Ryze's game-play so I never pick him.

But I see him picked uncommonly and he does reasonably well, sometimes snowballing incredibly hard..... no , he is not dead, no he does not need buffs.

Charm is a skill-shot.

Rune Prison is not.

Out of curiosity how often do you feel that he snowballs super hard. And I normally don't call champs dead but to me a 40% win rate screams something is wrong.

Well although I agree with you the rest of my statements states that the problem that comes from ahri is not her ability to cc and neither is it ryzes the problem with ahri is that she can 100-0 you with w and r charges and lichbane autos. Something that can not be countered.

The only way Ahri will 100% to 0% someone (with only W and R) is if she's way ahead or the person is already heavily injured.

Ahri's burst scaling is actually quite poor in comparison to the damage compresion of... say Annie Evelynn Leblanc
