She is being played again becasue Triforce was made good at the end of season 3 and most melee can't do shit vs ranged.

But most of season 3 Irelia was in a really bad spot since assassins could get flat pen applying after their % pen making true damage less valuable and triforce was nerfed into a place of being a joke. That was literally all it took to make Irelia drop to below 45% win rate.
