My thoughts on ranked in this season

This season... it just feels as though there's little you can do if someone snowballs in another lane. The game becomes an utter stomp because of the ridiculously long respawn timers. Your team wipes once due to a fed Ekko and suddenly you've lost 2 turrets and an inhib mid at 25 mins.

There is next to nothing you can do, especially in lower elo where splitpushing can't be abused because your teammates still don't know how to take advantage of pressure play and you just end up dying to a 3 man gank, they group mid, and proceed to wipe the other 4 members and/or take a tower in a siege because I can't be up to defend it for 100000 years.

It also doesn't help that Riot made it so that so long as you build a few of those ridiculous have-some-health-resistences-and-dps items (Sterak's, Maw), you can tower dive and laugh off turret dps. Why even bother having tower lasers up after 20 mins? It's not like they make that big of a difference now that Riot has practically transformed turrets into +125 global team gold caches.

This season sucks. Literally next to no skill outside of just completely crushing your lane and getting super fed so that you have a chance at carrying.

Meanwhile ranked premades are getting silver elo players into plat/dia in a matter of weeks.

About 2,000 other people have posted this exact same thing since Season 6 started, yet it took until patch 6.7 for Riot to shorten the death timers. I've barely played any Normal or Ranked games this season, so I'm not really an authority on the matter, but they don't feel much shorter to me (probably my lack of games this season making it seem that way. The change could actually be fairly significant).

I'm not going to make any claims about Riot being incompetent or that they don't care about the community, as I have no idea what goes on behind the scenes. But from an outside perspective, it seems like they want games to end as quickly as possible.

Yes, I know I am jumping on the same bandwagon as the others, but I just needed to vent my frustration for this ridiculousness that Riot has been engaging in for the past 6-8 months.

And regarding the matches not appearing to be shorter - it's because people are so afraid to engage because of the timers. I've spent so much of my match time this season playing the "chase the enemy team in one direction until they reach their turret, and then have them chase us back to our's midlane, looking for an opening to engage with the lowest risk". Everyone is so incredibly cautious due to the extreme penalties for a wipe.
