@RIOT Annie Bot has opened 316 chests

Sorceress Soleil·4/20/2016, 9:09:32 PM·103 votes·7,044 views

and has only gotten 9 gemstones and no Hextech Annie skin.

My point is that don't you think the drop-rate for this might be a little... skewed? I understand the intention and the skin has definitely helped draw people towards the chest grind/buy, but, uh, a more reasonable rng might be nice? Not complaining, just suggesting. I don't really care to get the skin (<3 sweetheart and goth) but to see the player with the most Annie games in the world unable to get the only skin he's missing for the only champ he plays/cares about, it kinda sucks.

Not to mention just by raw numbers alone it's kinda silly. I could understand this being a dumb argument if it was any other skin or group not dropping (because "we didn't even have the chance at free skins before, be grateful, etc etc") which is fair but this skin is exclusively ONLY available in hextech crafting. So. I think this suggestion is also reasonable and not greedy or entitled.

He's spending money for those chests? I'd say riot thinks it's working as intended

I have a friend that bought 50 and got Hextech Annie. I was stunned. The chest are RNG related, some people are lucky and some aren't. :\

This is just RNG though.

It is no different than opening a pack of Pokemon / Yu-Gi-Oh cards and not getting the card you want or need. Same thing for those machines that dispense little toys and trinkets.

Redmercy did 500 and got 10 with 9 to spare

RNG sucks. I had to farm a raid in WoW for 2 years to get a pair of boots to drop for transmog. The boss itself was RNG with 1 of 3 possible outcomes, and then the loot itself was pulled from 2 tables. (one from the boss chosen and one from the event as a whole)

I have gotten 4 rare drop mounts with .01% drop before the boots with an alleged 25% drop rate actually happened.

Believe me when I say when you get the item you've worked your butt off finally becomes yours.... absolute gambler's high. [slayer-jinx-wink]

Why would someone want Hextech Annie so badly?

BornAgainVirgin4/21/2016, 3:20:18 AM5 votes

truly sad to hear this is going on, they should just gift it to annie bot. like after 300 you should just get it, that is at least fair i think

If someone's trying to get one specific skin through Hextech Crafting, any skin and not just the Hextech Annie one, then they need to expect that to take a lot of chests. Someone could get it in 20 chests or someone could get it after 100, but Riot certainly made that specific skin much more desirable by making it only available through that system.

They don't want everyone that buys chests to get the Annie skin because then they're not likely to buy as many chests. They intentionally keep the rate low so that people spend over $100 trying to get a single skin. That skin has artificially become the most expensive skin in the game and, in my opinion, it's not even the best skin in the game yet people are more than willing to spend a ludicrous amount of money simply for a chance at it. Let's remember that that's money being spend on a skin that someone could get for free if they just kept getting S ranks. If you're an Annie main it makes more sense, but the hype around that skin seems disproportional to how much quality the skin actually has. It might be the best Annie skin out currently, but I'd rather buy Pulsefire Ez or Spirit Guard Udyr before getting Hextech Annie because they are a fraction of the price for more content.

And since some people here already mentioned Redmercy, I've done the math on how long it would've taken someone six years to get if they simply waited and opened chests through weekly S ranks. Not a reasonable amount of time, but a nice reminder of how getting 1 year's worth of boxes effectively gives you an average of 1.7 gems.

I think it's kinda scummy they make one very special very hard to obtain skin with obscure value to spike their bank accounts. But I guess they prey on those willing.

I had PBE access so I could test the gems had sub 5% droprates. A person will basically never get it through the free rate only lol. You either have to get extremely lucky with the shard (it's a joke that can happen imo) or you toss Riot 100's of dollars.

I guess there are worse things that could happen and in the process you get lots of random stuff though...

The price didn't have to be soo high though. There could have done more "mythic skins" with lower costs. But it feels like they did the laziest greediest thing possible.

Success to the game makes me happy... I guess tho? lol

Increase the drop rate? The only reason the lame skin is special is because it's rare

Steel Blossom4/21/2016, 4:19:19 AM3 votes

I think that the higher mastery you have on a champion, the lower the chance of you getting a skin for that champion. I've opened about 250+ chests on the PBE, didn't even get a single Riven or Talon skin shard. Everything about Hextech crafting just makes me want to grab the people responsible and drown them in acid.

A Prop Phone4/21/2016, 3:08:33 AM3 votes

Better luck on the next 316 chests rofl.

Elikain4/21/2016, 4:11:41 PM3 votes

Redmercy has spent 500 dollars for 320 chests and keys and he also gotten barely 10 gemstones to craft the Hextech Annie skin. I don't even know why, he doesn't play Annie, he just wanted the skin for some reason. I think the drop rate of gemstones is fair right now. Annie's skin is an exclusive skin that can be gotten in 3 ways.

  1. Owning every skin that can be bought and re-rolling any 3 skin shards.
  2. Getting it randomly through a chest drop.
  3. Getting 10 gemstones and crafting her.

So saying that Jared is a passionate Annie main and that he deserves to have every skin for her would be like saying that every Riven main should be able to own her Championship skin. Drop rates for gemstones are about 3 % so you should realistically expect 3 gems per 100 chests. Jared oppened 316, that's still 9. I see nothing wrong with that math. It's a game of chance and it sucks that he didn't get lucky.

Funny, I opened roughly 140 chests and got 11. Feelsbadman

ya boi shaq4/21/2016, 2:48:16 PM2 votes

I've never bought a chest or key, and got Hextech Annie shard from a drop yesterday. Yes, I'm extremely lucky but where will I get 2300 essence to make it permanent?

dunkeroni4/21/2016, 6:07:13 PM2 votes

Actually that falls right in line with what's expected for Hextech Annie. Other tests on PBE usually took around 350 chests to get the 10 requisite gemstones.

Trylobyte4/21/2016, 11:52:46 AM2 votes

My friend must be super lucky, because she got it in five chests. Yes, five. RNG for ya.

Hentai Lewds4/21/2016, 11:51:01 AM2 votes

i spent rp on 10ish chests but i got 9 champion shards and i gave up :P

It sucks and all but Anie Bot and other streamers and youtubers just spend subscriber / donation money on those crates. It isn't really their money but it's certainly Riot's money now. It happened with CS:GO, it happened with Hearthstone, of course it's going to happen with Hextech.

The psychological manipulations and 'cash sinks' in games have been getting worse, and the community itself heavily enables it. Don't think for a minute that Riot's marketing team doesn't realize how many streamers are out there and how many people they have donating and subbing to them daily.
