Blue essence = IP Orange essence = RP

What do you guys think about Orange essence and RP being merged? I feel like it could be doable and make some sense, what's the point of having two currencies both intended to buy cosmetic features? And if players who don't care for skins as much really wanted to, they could now spend their orange essence on champions and enlarge their champion pool faster!

I'm sure this has already been considered, why do you think it never went through? Why did Rito decide not to do it?

The best reason why not to from Riot's perspective: RP can be spent on anything you want, Orange Essence can only be used on what you've got a shard for. You can have 6,000 Orange Essence, but unless you've got a skin shard for something you want it's useless, thus it doesn't cut into Riot's bottom line. At some point you get fed up and decide you want the skin regardless, you spend $15 and get the skin.

I doubt any player would perm skin shards if that were to happen, they would probably just disenchant them all and buy their favorite skins right away, in addition to hot new skins on day 1.

Obviously, that would be a major hit to Riot's revenue stream from cosmetics. The fact that hextech crafting very rarely gives you exactly what you want is probably the main reason Riot was able to consider putting 'free' cosmetic skins in the game.
