Champion "classes" are a horrible thing for this game and the class updates have done lots of damage
The longer the game is balanced around these "classes", the more it will become a stale Rock, Paper, Scissors match mostly decided in champ select. Champions should be complex and difficult to pigeon hole. When I try to think of champions that defy a class the only one that comes to mind is
.
Almost every other champion in this game fits in neatly into these "classes" that have been laid out. It hurts player creativity and expressiveness. It hurts in-game player impact and favors pre-game team comp impact. It hurts creative and off-beat team comp strategies and favors strict meta compliance.
I'd like to see more champions and reworks introducing "x-factor" abilities like Bard's R or E that are difficult to quantify. Even
's R is a cool ability although it doesn't happen to be very strong in soloq. But I hope it's this kind of direction the game goes in moving forward as right now champions feel way too stifled by this categorization.
The direction they're taking the runes gives me hope that this is where League is headed. The new runes seem like they're going to provide a lot of difficult to quantify options that feel like a breath of fresh air.
