spent probably close 5 to 10 attempts to win with lux ,jinx, poppy, janna ,lulu and we failed every time. we then did the the second group of ahri, syndra, miss fortune, soraka, and ez. completed it first try with litter trouble. what do we need to do to make tyhe first group work

I beat that one, it's doable, dont worry.
It also helps immensely if Soraka builds 
as soon as possible. She can regenerate health quickly, so when she revives teammates they revive with more health. Plus her E is useful for stopping Kog from enraging and giving a brief break from Vel's shots.

We actually had an easier time with Lux's team than Ahri's team, not gonna lie. However we did get pretty lucky with some pretty dumb strats, I built Warmogs on Poppy and since I always had full hp in the boss fight, my revives had most of their health. Janna basically just needs to build Ardent and protect Jinx other than that.

Make sure Jinx doesn't die, and send Poppy to CC Vel and Kog.
The main problem is you have both Lulu and Janna (its overkill with the shields) and neither have much offence.
You lack damage as a result and you have over concentrated your damage into the Lux and Jinx.
Lux is pretty unreliable as far as damage goes because her Q is so volatile (in some games you get counterpicked, in other games they are too good and you can't hit your Qs).
I'd only run one of Janna/Lulu (you lose too much damage running both and neither can serve as a front line tank) and replace it with either a fighter tank (ex Darius, Renekton) who can bring some damage or a back up damage Mage top (ex Vladimir/Swain). Your comp becomes much more reliable and hard to deal with.
